You people are definitely the best and brightest with this stuff. Not only that you're all well-adjusted enough to answer just about anything with little to no snark. :)

Where I work, I'm running Incrediblepbx. We have a PRI, (never ridding ourselves of that). Calls are perfect, all 5 of them concurrently :)

Our Incredible connects to a Sangoma Vega 100G, that connects to the PRI. About 100 DIDs. The important DIDs are to the bosses and a few importan people, about 6-10 of them.

I was thinking if that Vega dies one day. I am SOL.

I can:
1. Buy a Vega 100G or 200G from ebay, copy the config over, put it on the shelf.
2. Get some SIP from VOIP.ms have it just sitting there.-but what do I do with the DIDs? Vega Dies, I can get outbound working, whats the consensus about incoming? to the DIDs of the bosses, and maybe our Main line? with 6-10 people I might be able to pull something off?

Any thoughts?

Much appreciated.

No brainer. Buy the spare, configure it, AND test it. Better yet. Put it in service and put your existing unit on the shelf.

You should definitely have fully tested spare parts and ready to roll swap units on something as crucial as telecom hardware. So, you should buy that Vega box asap!

That said, you should also plan on converting everything to VoIP and implement your plan within a well defined, reasonably short time frame.

Running traditional telco service/hardware, including PRIs, etc. along with VoIP is something that I did for my businesses for several years because my "strategic business management advisors" told me that VoIP was still risky technology and it was not good to put all my eggs in the same basket anyway!

In retrospect I regret listening to that advice.

In any event, VoIP is very mature now. Providers are plentiful. They come in all sizes and they are suitable for every league.

As for your DIDs, you can move them to VoIP right away. Do your homework for an origination provider. There are very good ones out there and a few really bad apples to avoid.

My preference goes for BulkVS because they have very good pricing, reliable service and very good technical support.

But there are also many others to consider and if you scrutinize this forum a bit you'll quickly figure out which ones are most advocated (and which ones to avoid).
