NEW Trump Wonderphone Update

Too bad a class action lawsuit would only result in money for the lawyers and a $50 coupon towards the purchase of other Trump branded merchandise for those who put down the deposit. (minimum purchase $500)

Key Details from Grok:

  • Trump Mobile T1 (a gold-colored Android smartphone, ~$499 full price) was announced in June 2025 by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. Customers were asked to put down a $100 refundable preorder deposit to "secure" one, with initial shipping promised for late summer/fall 2025.
  • No phones have shipped as of May 2026 (nearly a year later), despite multiple delays. Estimates (unverified by the company) suggest ~590,000–600,000 deposits were collected, totaling roughly $59–60 million.
Recent Developments (Emails and Terms):

Many pre-order customers recently reported receiving communications indicating the devices would not ship (at least not as originally planned), sparking outrage especially among Trump supporters.
  • Trump Mobile updated its preorder terms (as of April 2026). Deposits do not guarantee a phone will be produced or delivered — it's framed as a "conditional opportunity" at the company's sole discretion.
  • The official terms still state that if the company cancels or discontinues the offering, they will issue full refunds. However, customer frustration is high due to the lack of delivery, vague responses, and the effective non-refund situation in practice for many.
This has led to widespread complaints, social media backlash, and calls for investigations (e.g., FTC scrutiny over marketing). The company has sold other products (refurbished phones and a mobile plan) but the flagship T1 has not materialized for customers.

Bottom line: People did put down $100 deposits, phones have not shipped, and many have been told (or fear) they won't get refunds easily. The fine print provides the company significant protection, but it has angered a lot of buyers who expected a real product. Always read terms carefully on preorder/deposit deals like this.

I'd be careful of wishful thinking on BlueSky, X.com, or other social media sites. There has been no official announcement of bankruptcy. Also it is misleading just saying "Trump" when it is not the President but two of his sons who own the company.

On the Trump Mobile website, it features a picture of Donald Trump, Jr. There are no pictures of President Trump. See: https://trumpmobile.com/

Again, unbiased info from Grok:

Key clarifications:

  • No confirmed bankruptcy: There are no credible reports of Trump Mobile or the related company filing for bankruptcy. Claims of bankruptcy appear to be social media rumors or exaggeration amid the backlash. The company is still operating, selling wireless plans ($47.45/month "47 Plan"), and accepting new T1 deposits/waitlist sign-ups.
  • Phone status: The T1 is still listed on the official Trump Mobile site as "coming soon" with updated specs (e.g., large AMOLED screen, Snapdragon processor). It's been redesigned multiple times and had "Made in USA" claims quietly softened. No official cancellation announcement from the company.
  • Deposits: Refunds seem available per terms (customers can request them), though processing and frustration are high. Some reports note the fine print limits liability.
This has become a major controversy, especially among Trump supporters who feel let down by the delays and hype. It's a classic case of vaporware/pre-order risks—overpromising on a branded product that hasn't materialized. Democratic lawmakers have even called for FTC investigations into the deposits and marketing.

Bottom line: The phone project is heavily delayed (or effectively stalled), and many customers are angry with little to show for their deposits. But the company hasn't gone bankrupt, and the product hasn't been officially canceled. Check the official site or contact Trump Mobile support directly for your deposit status if you're affected. Always read the fine print on pre-orders!

From Heather Cox Richardson's May 11 column:
The story of the Trump Mobile phone seems a microcosm of the Trump administration.

As Judd Legum of Popular Information explains, on June 16, 2025, Trump’s sons Donald Jr. and Eric announced the launch of a new, gold plated, Trump smartphone, “proudly designed and built in the United States.” It would be available in August 2025 for $499. Its website urged customers to “pre-order” the phone by depositing $100 toward it. Don Jr. said the phone would be “American hardware, built in America, without the potential of…[a] backdoor into the hardware that some of our adversaries have installed in there.”

And yet a disclaimer on the website said the Trumps and the Trump Organization were involved only in the branding of the phone; they had nothing to do with the design, development, manufacture, distribution, or sales of the item. As Legum notes, the idea of a superior U.S.-made phone was always a fantasy, and within two weeks the phone’s description changed from “MADE IN THE USA” to “designed with American values in mind.”

The phone never shipped, and on April 6, Trump Mobile updated its terms to say the $100 deposit was not actually a deposit for a pre-order, but rather “a conditional opportunity if Trump Mobile later elects, in its sole discretion, to offer the Device for sale.” It went on to say the deposit “does not lock in pricing, promotions, service plans, taxes, fees, shipping costs, or other commercial terms” and that “[e]stimated ship dates, launch timelines, or anticipated production schedule are non-binding estimates only.”

A new phone has recently gotten clearance from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Trump Mobile executives say they are waiting for approval from T-Mobile, the company whose network Trump Mobile wants to use. Legum points out that T-Mobile relies on the federal government for approval for business activities, creating an enormous conflict of interest.

No one can deny it is bad optics for the Trump boys.

Not defending anyone, but this isn't this just case number 643,789,031,479 of some company exposing customer's personal info? It's like reporting that rain is wet these days.
Oh I think you missed:
30,000 preorders
10,000 customers

but apparently they were claiming 600,000 sales.

I didn't miss it, the headline was the exposed customer data.

Believing any pre-sales numbers or forecasts is stupid if you have been even peripherally involved with product sales any time in your life. I worked almost 40 years as an engineer across multiple product fields (consumer, telecom, medical, automotive) and don't think I ever saw anything come close to a forecast. A few were decently over, but most fell short by 25-50%. Sales/marketing greatly overestimate how much people will want the latest round of "new and improved". Even Apple seems to be running out of steam on customer enthusiasm over their mediocre incremental improvements.

Putting Trump(s) in the mix simply doubles or triples the inflation  . I guess in this case it's at least 20x, but again, not really surprising considering the source - so again, is this really news?

Seems most of the rumors were not true

That just looks like BS propaganda from another Trump hater. Here is a direct quote "Trump Mobile also told PCMag it's launched an investigation, and so far uncovered no evidence that the company's systems or network were compromised."

Who knows. There are so many lies and propaganda being spun. As if AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile haven't all had major hacks where customer information was stolen and sold. Also Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook/Meta, dozens of insurances companies, hospitals, and the list goes on.

People should just expect that any company anywhere that they deal with at any time will expose their personally identifiable information sooner or later. I've got so many free credit monitoring services now as a result of these leaks that I don't even remember who they all are.

This is yet another non-event with people just capitalizing on a possible leak with a company belonging to people that liberals love to hate.
