Vanilla Asterisk Install vs PIAF

ok since i have failed to install PIAF on lylix, i am now thinking of asking Lylix to install asterisk and freepbx on the server for me.

can somebody point to what PIAF offers over asterisk+freepbx combo. here is my current understanding:
- simple ISO based install - I cannot use it in any case. in fact i am unable to install PIAF on a machine with CentOS already installed...
- lots of additional features - i guess i will live without them
- ongoing updates using update-scripts etc. -- what is the alternative if one has only asterisk-freepbx installed without the PIAF shell?

is my understanding largely correct?

The main thing that a rolled ISO, rather than a roll your own version offers is testing, thousands of people have installed the same system time and time again, and if there is a problem, we hope they have told us about it.

There is also an element of security, that you would have to add.

The problem with your question is that it's a little too vague. There are loads of people here that would be happy to do an install for you at a reasonable price. A basic install involves burning a CD, booting a machine with the CD, and answering about three prompts. Is that what you have in mind?

If not, you need to be a bit more specific as to what your requirements are before anyone is likely to volunteer.

hey good to hear from you Ward. Joe has been helping me with this matter. i tried to follow step by step installation of dependencies needed by PIAF but did not manage to.

what i want to do - install PIAF on a CentOS 5.2 machine where I am unable to boot from a CD. a remote VPS - at least I believe that I am unable to boot from a CD.
