I noticed that Viatalk advertises $199/year with one year free. I am guessing that's about $8.30/month plus taxes and fees... Not a bad deal for unlimited.
Has anyone had any experiences with ANY of their services. (Yeah, looking at unlimited and the pay-per-minute!)
I would be very interested in hearing your opinions.
Thanks!

Residential Pricing

Just be careful comparing "unlimited" packages. ViaTalk, for example, has a different price for business/home office packages vs. residential. They may not police it, but then again they may. And some other "unlimited" packages aren't...some have caps.

I just canceled my Viatalk at the end of the two year contract. Keep in mind that even though you pay up front, after the first year, you have to pay the $2.50/month E911 charge because you "get the second year free" after paying the $199 for the first year.

Secondly, I had voice quality issues, servers bouncing, and deplorable customer service for months. The nicest person I spoke to at Viatalk was the young lady who processed my disconnect. She was a bright spot and very helpful after lackluster service with them.

I have kept my Viatalk VTWhite service (www.vtwhite.com) however. It is a commercial carrier type service and works with Asterisk far better than my basic Viatalk did. It is a little complicated to set up but I've been very pleased to have it as a backup service. Call quality is good and I can fax across this provider.

Just as I bailed out of Viatalk, it looked like they were taking steps to improve customer service but I'm not sure they are winning that battle. They took on too many of the subscribers from SunRocket (who shut down) and have not quite worked it all out yet.

My 2 cents worth is to go with Voicepulse Connect for Asterisk, Vitelity or Les.Net and leave the residential carriers alone. Your mileage may vary.

I am also annoyed with Viatalk for the shady billing of $2.50/month on my free year. The funny thing is that the CC I have on file with them has expired so they just keep racking up the $2.50 charges and I'm sure not paying for them since I don't use the line anymore.

I use VoipStreet and have been very impressed with their service. I have 3 DID's with them and have experienced 0 downtime that was their fault.

I'll probably set up a fall-back trunk with Voicepulse but haven't had any downtime at all with VoipStreet.

I have had Viatalk for about 1 year and have been pretty happy with them. Voice quality is good enough for home use and the price is right. We had some cruddy service for a week or so but a call to CS got us reconfigured to another server and it has been fine since then.
