I have just installed Incredible PBX 2021, replacing 2020, and I have decided to set up voice to text transcription. It is on a fresh install of Debian 10.11 with a new PBX config (not restored), and I am getting an API error indicating the format is not accepted for some reason.

"error": "unable to transcode data stream audio/wav -> audio/l16 ",

I can get a flac file to work with some modification of the watson-test file, I'd like to avoid adding overhead by doing a double conversion (from wav to flac to mp3) if possible.

Has anyone come across this?

Working fine for me on Debian 10 on five different systems. Did you change anything in the sendmailmp3.ibm file before or after copying it to sendmailmp3? Did you remember to change the file to insert your credentials and the url?

No I did not change it. Also I cannot get it to work with the watson-test file which does not even use the sendmailmp3 file. Watson-test is the file I modified to get flac to work.

All I can recommend is log into your Watson account and recopy your API key and the access URL. The URL in the Watson speech test is not the one you want to use. The one provided in your IBM Watson credentials is needed. It is working for me. I just sent myself a voice mail and the transcription worked.

The correct URL to put in the scripts should look more like this: "https://api.us-south.speech-to-text.watson.cloud.ibm.com/instances/......"

Thanks kenn10, I will have to modify the sendmailmp3 file to do a flac conversion. Clearly the URL and API are correct if it works with a flac file.

Typical for me to find the edge case.

One last thing. On Settings > Voicemail Admin > Settings Tab > General Tab do you have this:

Thanks kenn10,
So I have discovered / rediscovered two things.

Firstly I am an idiot, I added the API and URL to the .ibm file after I copied it so the settings were not in the sendmailmp3 file. (The rediscovery that I am an idiot)

Secondly the watson-test file gives me different results to the sendmailmp3 file so I was trying to resolve an issue which was unrelated to the actual script in use. (The discovery that I should have ignored the test file)

To cut a long story short, it is resolved with the API and URL added correctly, as you suggested, and if I had not used the test file I would not be chasing my tail. Although I can't see what the difference would be.

Thanks again for your help kenn10.

Some of us have brain farts all the time. Don't feel bad. Glad you resolved it. Feel free to "like" my posts that helped you.

For future readers … I had the same experience. I followed the steps here https://nerdvittles.com/free-ibm-voicemail-transcription-with-incredible-pbx-2020/ and they were wonderful, except that the ./watson-test generates the same error (found in the audio.txt file if you tweak the script to avoid deleting it).

However, when I actually tested using the replaced & updated sendmailmp3 script, it all worked great!
