I have a hosted PBX, they basically give me root access with pbx in a flash, sip trunk and everything else is handled by me. Recently we get a denial of service (DOS) attack and here is what happens:
- an entire area code gets an SMS message for verizon users telling them there is an issue at their bank and to call xxx. that number (xxx) is our main line. So many people call that it takes our trunk down
- during this time our phone system redirects an extension
- we have very secure passwords and have changed them multiple times
- nobody is making calls outbound from what we can tell, its just calls coming inbound and flooding us creating a DOS
