xinit will not run [solved]
I recently installed the 32 bit PBIAF from v 1.7.5.5.2 on my new refurb'd Revo 3610, then the Asterisk Purple edition. I have the usual phone services configured and they are working like a champ, but when I tried xinit from the root (using "root" as the user), I receive the following error:
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): no program named "xterm" in PATH
Specify a program on the command line or make sure that /usr/bin
is in your path.
This is after creating the xorg.conf suggested in the Nerdviddles article about enabling skype, to see if that would make my xinit work (it would not start before the .conf file, either). I watched the original installation and *thought* it ran without errors. I am interested in xinit in order to get skype working and to configure my revo for wireless (I originally set up using LAN connection).
Can anyone suggest alternatives to try getting xinit to run? startX also did not run, but X brings up an empty window manager. If re-installation is the best alternative, could someone point me in the direction how to save the PBIAF config details I have already setup?
PS Thank you Ward & the other developers for making Asterisk accessible to users like me! I have been interested in Asterisk and VOIP for several years but did not feel I had the sysadmin skills to get it to work in the time I have available for projects.
