NEW YouTube TV: From $35 to Whopping $82.99

Even $72.99 is too high. I make due with my cable service that has HBO, Showtime, several other movie stations and all the usual cable channels. I use a Plex server to record things I would have used streaming on-demand for like shows on Paramount, HBO, etc. and then watch the recordings at leisure. I pay $55/month for all the cable channels and another $60/month for fiber internet at 450 Meg. Granted, my service is not with a mega-blob like Comcast, Cox or Charter, we have excellent service except when there is a power failure to their fiber nodes.

Yeah, I can't do as much on-demand stuff but I can live with that. I'm about to cut Netflix off due to lack of new content and when Amazon starts charging for Prime Video, it gets axed as well.

Because of what streaming stations and over-the-top internet channels are costing, I suspect the cable TV industry will survive. Comcast offers a full internet streaming channel lineup now but you have to be in their footprint to get it.

Our condo in Charleston subscribes to Xfinity for the complex. At $50, that suddenly has become very reasonable pricing with lots of sports channels and Xfinity Stream that you can use anywhere. It's making it much more difficult to keep YouTube TV whose previous appeal was being able to use it in multiple locations. Now, of course, they hassle you whenever you want to use it in multiple locations, something Xfinity doesn't (yet) do.

Wow, those are at least a decade ago prices for me.

I finally switched (to Hulu Live) just under a year ago because my (very basic) cable + 100M internet went up to $265/month. That was nothing extra (no Showtime, HBO, Cinemax, sports packages, nada), just the standard cable channels.

Hulu was $77/month, it went up a couple months ago, but it was $5-6, not more than double. Internet is now $55/mo, so all in I'm about half what I was paying to RCN/Astound for both.

Definite pros and cons to the switch from a usability standpoint, but on balance the cost savings outweighs the annoyances.

Loving my antenna until the encrypt the ATSC OTA sometime over the next few years . . . we're going to end up sailing the virtual seas again if this keeps up.

Just read an article saying some people who tried to cancel were offered six additional months at the current price. Worked for me. Log into YouTube TV, Settings, Manage, and start the cancellation process. After clicking the reason as "cost" A new window opened offering the same price for six months.

TIP: Go to Settings -> Membership -> Manage -> Cancel to begin the cancellation process. You will get an offer to continue at the current price for 6 more months.
