I have a customer that wants an UK number for advertising. I checked out DID Exchange but I am a bit confused about:

1. For example I found the number +443300103442 - How do you dial this if you are sitting in the UK?
2. DID Exchange calls the above number 03 UK-Wide National - What exactly does this mean?

Can any of you UK member shed some light on this?

Thanks, Bart

from the UK you would dial

03300103442 (the number preceded by the "national trunk prefix 0" )

numbers starting with 1 or 2 (national) preferably 20 (London) would be more easily recognized by a "local" avoid numbers that start with 7 (expensive mobile calls for the caller) and 8 and 9 (shared cost numbers)

OK, Let me ask, what would a radio ad say? call 03300103442 or 3300103442? Do UK Callers know to add the zero?

Thanks

Well after all my work, it turned out my customer wanted a UK Toll Free number.

OK, I got one. Could someone from the UK Attempt to dial my number to test? The number is 448000588733 - it should ring my desktop phone
Thanks

Not Me it could cost someone up to a dollar a minute or more ( probably you) I don't think you will get many Brit's to call it either from their mobiles

hmm, it suppose to be toll free from anyone in the UK or am I confused?

Toll free for who? Someone has to pay for the call, seriously :-)

I'm in the UK - do you still need a test call making?!

Happy to help,

Matthew

Hi Bart,

0800 numbers in the UK are only toll free from certain landlines (usually British Telecom (BT)) mobile phone operators charge a premium for 0800 numbers ( and other 08 numbers like 0844 and 0845). 0330 numbers are 'relatively' new and not many UK people are aware of them but they are charged at standard national rate from any landline or mobile.and included in 'free minutes' for mobile and landline contracts. BT's pricing is a mine field - see http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/lib/pdf/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf

Let me ask, what would a radio ad say? call 03300103442 or 3300103442? Do UK Callers know to add the zero? - the full number with the '0' otherwise you won't get many calls.

hope this helps
Oliver

Any number that starts 44 outside the UK would automatically start 0 within the UK. Same for most eu countries apart from Italy. So toll free 44 800 would simply be 0800 in uk.It's rare for a number to be written 44 in uk and this would confuse a lot of people, the convention traditionally has been to write it +44 (0) 800 to indicate international callers prefix their exit code and drop the 0, uk callers ignore +44 and dial the rest. Practically it's only international companies who expect international callers like shipping agents to write like that. And 0800 numbers have been free to call from mobiles since last summer.
