Received this today from Octavius Gould ([email protected]) - Ward?

Hi,

We, at PBX in a Flash, would like to inform you that PBX in a Flash Versions 3 and under are no longer supported since the release of PBX in a Flash 5. Due to this recent development, any version prior to PBX in a Flash 5 is considered to be insecure and possess limited features.

PBX in a Flash 5 has solved multiple issues users have faced in the past while using previous versions of PIAF. With zero admin, the ability to deploy both in the cloud and on premise with multiple integrated features; version 5 provides the end-user a communications experience unlike any other.

What’s more, by upgrading you will not only gain a state of the art phone system for free but also gain a complimentary annual license key worth $350!

Free Support

Require support? Don’t worry we have you covered. When you upgrade to PBX in a Flash 5, users also get free access to forum support and resellers also have free access to the support portal.

How to Get the Supported Version

To receive your free PIAF 5 license key, click on the link below and fill in the form. You will receive an email with your free license key details for 8 Simultaneous Calls (25 extensions) and Unlimited SIP Trunks, worth $350.

Claim your FREE 25 extension license NOW
(Offer Valid until the 2nd of May 2017)

It's a second offer to obtain a free commercial license for 3CX at no cost. PIAF3 has been an insecure and unsupported platform for at least the last 3 years.

OK, your prerogative of course, but FYI you likely technically ran afoul of Canadian anti-spam laws on this one; you (ie either using the pbxinflash domain or nerdvittles etc) could have sent me email because we have an existing business relationship (of sorts in that I've used PIAF and donated previously) but they (3cx) can't without my explicit permission; put another way, unless you have sold the board (pbxinaflash.com) to them (which would transfer the existing business relationship but still require explicit permission going forward) you may want to be careful of that (it is a cross border enforceable law).

Just speaking personally, honestly email solicitations are really unappreciated like this. Plenty of info here on the 3cx option if I need it. No harm though just an opinion.

is there an upgrade/migration path or just download, install and re-setup everything.

@atsak: Please review the disclaimer at the bottom of every forum page. I think we've also made clear both on the forum and on Nerd Vittles that, IF you had a PIAF Forum account, that would make you eligible for 3CX's commercial PBX upgrade license at no cost. They chose to send those offers out presumably using email addresses submitted as part of the PIAF Forum registration process. If you'd prefer not to receive 3CX communications, the simple answer is to remove your email address from your PIAF Forum account or just insert a dummy address. And, to answer your question directly, Ward Mundy & Associates, LLC does have a business relationship with 3CX, and their Nerd Vittles advertising directly supports this open source community. They also maintain and financially support the PIAF Forum now, tasks which I was delighted to relinquish in order to concentrate on our open source projects. I would hasten to add that they've done an admirable job both in supporting the forum as well as our open source projects including but not limited to Incredible PBX 13 and Incredible PBX for Wazo.

Unfortunately, all projects require funding and lots of labor. Free volunteers and financial contributors are few and far between. We are fortunate to have forum members and gurus (such as yourself) that contribute technical expertise to support the thousands of people that rely upon the PIAF Forum as a source of unbiased information about VoIP. But it still takes money to run the railroad.

Please contact @pbxinaflash and they will get someone to work with you in getting your existing setup migrated to PIAF 5.

So, is this the reason that my 3+ year old RentPBX instance is now throwing the following error --

Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: piaf3. Please verify its path and try again

indeed. Please consider IncrediblePBX 13.12-x for CentOS (or Pi)
