video playback mp4 h264

We have a use case whereby we would like to call an extension and have it answer and play an mp4 file back. I have been looking around and finding some really old articles involving mp4play. I am currently unable to find the asterisk mp4play module and its not included in the current version of asterisk that I am running (Asterisk 16.12.0). The articles that i am reading are to the order of 10 years and older.

Does anyone have any information/link/book/smoke signal as to how to get this done? I would have thought that I would just be able to call the playback application from the dialplan and it would just playback either wav or mp4 depending on the type of file.

Asterisk isn’t the right tool for that. Freeswitch can do it.

Freeswitch has had video since at least version 1.6. Version 1.10 is current. Use the latest unless you have reason not to.
