I have a very basic setup I think, I do not know much about it, where should I get started learning about it? I have asktrisk 13.7.2 and Incredible PBX 12.0.70 and I am having all sorts of issues with my mitel phones. The biggest issue I have now is 2 extensions can receive calls but the min they dial out the phone breaks. How would I go about upgrading or learning?

You mention asktrisk 13.7.2 and Incredible PBX 12.0.70 which is somewhat past its best before date - things have moved on a little but you will find plenty of alternatives in the Incrediblepbx Tiki Wiki mentioned in the above post by @KNERD
The biggest issue I have now is 2 extensions can receive calls but the min they dial out the phone breaks.

Well if the issue is not fully explained; with apropriate call trace, / log traces etc; then no-one here can either understand nor make pertinent suggestions.

I am sorry I am not really sure how to even begin, I am such a novice in the voip side of things.

Do you have basic working experience with that specific setup? If so, assuming that you have more than those two extensions, and some of them work well, compare their settings (outbound route settings for an extension that works well vs fails).
Those two faulty extensions, can they dial other extensions?
You've mentioned that as the biggest issue. What else is wrong? Maybe they are related. The more info you provide the more help you would get.
If you have no practical experience with this platform not only you would need to catch on with the reading material, but you would also need a test platform to experiment. Just make sure that you don't create new problems inadvertently on the current one. The software being an old version I am not sure you can still find it for a fresh new install, but you can probably replicate your existing machine, even virtualize it, so that you can use it as a test platform.
If the current system is not critical and you can wipe it for a new setup, then go for the latest version and start fresh. It's really quite simple to get a PBX running with basic functionality. Just make sure that you have all your trunk info and call routing rules properly saved from your current system (including paper copy) so that you can enter it in your new one.

If you really have no idea what is going on with that outdated system, I wouldn't even waste the time learning about something so old. If you need to learn about voip, you should really start by reading the article/tutorials on nerdvittles .com. @wardmundy has a terrific collection of articles there. included are multiple tutorials on how to set up a current up to date working pbx that only takes a few minutes to set up so you can learn while you have a working system.
