VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro oracl provided Image: Canonical-Ubuntu-22.04-Minimal-2023.03.17-0.

On new always free E2.1 AMD OCL VM I did an apt update and apt upgrade and it finished with
Code:
Warning: os-prober will not be executed to detect other bootable partitions.
Systems on them will not be added to the GRUB boot configuration.
Check GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER documentation entry.
Adding boot menu entry for UEFI Firmware Settings ...
done
debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
debconf: (No usable dialog-like program is installed, so the dialog based frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm line 78.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline

Pending kernel upgrade
----------------------

Newer kernel available

The currently running kernel version is 5.15.0-1030-oracle which is not the expected kernel version 5.15.0-1032-oracle.

Restarting the system to load the new kernel will not be handled automatically, so you should consider rebooting.

Restarting services...
Daemons using outdated libraries
--------------------------------

  1. networkd-dispatcher.service 2. unattended-upgrades.service

(Enter the items or ranges you want to select, separated by spaces.)

Which services should be restarted?

OK do I need either or just reboot ? Please advise.

Yes. The new kernel needs to load. Just reboot. Do another apt update && apt upgrade after reboot to be sure.

Yes, thanks, I did that too

Running kernel seems to be up-to-date.

No services need to be restarted.

No containers need to be restarted.

No user sessions are running outdated binaries.

No VM guests are running outdated hypervisor (qemu) binaries on this host.

That's good so far.

Then onto the tutorial at Incredible PBX 2027 for Ubuntu 22.04

Notes:
Code:
 userdel -r temp-user-name
userdel: user 'temp-user-name' does not exist
 ls /home/
opc ubuntu

ip a returns the internal 10.0.0.xxx/24 address and needs the VPN to be first setup
To get your Public IPv4 address used for initial setup see the instance IP on Dashboard, or try
Code:
curl ipv4.checkip.dns.he.net;echo

UPDATED to change order of tasks below:

I haven't had to use VPN at all. I just download the keys and upload the public key before instance creation. I do a couple of other things before installing IncrdiblePBX:

1) From my PC, I use PowerShell and ssh -i <location of your downloaded private key> ubuntu@IPV4 Address provided in the instance info
2) sudo passwd root and change it to a complicated password
3) sudo vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config and temporarily set to allow root login and allow password authorization. Restart sshd
4) su root and log in as root.
5) vi /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg to allow root login and disable changing host name each reboot.
6) Don't delete the temp user Ubuntu until you're through setting up the whole system "just in case."

Well not sure why but I locked myself out, and had to blow away the instance.
Now up to 2. done.
I already unminimise
and done apt update && apt upgrade
suprised that when I
apt list nano
# Listing... Done
# nano/jammy,now 6.2-1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
I found nano installed (it wasn't in the minimised install).

Having added PermitRootLogin yes ; PasswordAuthentication yes
Restarted ssh with # systemctl restart ssh
From local Raspbian ran ssh-to-root@oracleIP script
Code:
./ssh-to-root@oracleIP
# ssh key file is present
#Please login as the user "ubuntu" rather than the user "root".
# Connection to xxx.xxx.xx.xxx closed.
So logging in as ubuntu and then ' sudo su - '

In the /etc /ssh /sshd_config file:
Code:
PermitRootLogin yes
.
.
.
.
PasswordAuthentication yes <-- Only until you get your private key set up for user root

No. Its sshd
That is also a Not really , with Debian based Lini it's installed with ssh (or openssh-server), but you can if you really want to ;-)

systemctl list-units |grep ssh

but

ls -l /etc/systemd/system/sshd.service

for shits and giggles (but it's not canonical) , edit /etc/services and /etc/ssh/sshd_config to not be Port 22 and in ubuntu flavors, as root run passwd to enable root login before adding appropriate keys and disabling any password logins.

Wonderind if that can be the same private key?

Yes but no, you copy the public key from the client's .ssh/directory to .ssh/known_hosts, the private key remains private on the client and the ownership is 'strictly honored' user/600 is recommended for security

ssh-copy-id whoever@wherever -p whatever

will do it for you, but you will need to create a root password first
