HELP: PIAF 1.4 Testers Needed

I've tested the 1.4 Beta, and it DOES 'seem' to install the NIC drivers for the Realtek R8168 Drivers... but they do NOT work. Linux correctly identifies the NIC, and you can specify IP information... but the system always reports 'No media/cable attached'. This is in a known/working/tested box to which I simply replaced the HDD for this test. I've got a full & complete writeup on how to manually install the drivers in another thread if that'll help.

As I understand it, the CentOS dev team has not yet addressed the conflicting driver problem that this NIC causes so you still have to install it manually. Supposedly, this will be fixed in CentOS 3.4 if it ever makes it out the door. This is fixed in the latest FC10 release so hopefully it'll trickle downstream shortly.

Updated Driver

Here is an updated driver installation script:

HTML:
cd /usr/src
wget http://pbxinaflash.net/source/realtek/r8168-8.010.00.tar.bz2
tar xjvf r8168-8.010.00.tar.bz2
cd r8168-8.010.00
make clean
make modules
make install
depmod -a
modprobe r8168
lsmod | grep r8168
ifconfig -a

Duh. What was I thinking?? Actually, you don't need to do any of this with PIAF 1.4. After CentOS loads and reboots, type Q to drop down to the command prompt. Run the piaf-menu and choose driver A. Once it installs, reboot and continue with the PIAF load. :wink5:

P.S. There's apparently a bug in the PIAF 1.4 setup. Running update-scripts does NOT load the new version of Fail2Ban! Patch 121 logs as "patch already applied" when, in fact, it hasn't been. We'll fix this in the new load files and in update-scripts when Tom returns.

For a various reasons, I needed to rebuild a box that had been running for over two years.

1.4 installed and was up and ready in about 45 minutes. I manually configured the extensions, trunks, ring groups, etc...

Everything seems real good out of the box. I did make entries in sip_nat.conf and hosts. That and run mail-setup.

Last step was adding zaptel hardware and that was smooth too.

All in all, very nice work.

Hi, I have a PIAF 1.3 with 4PRI working fine in an CallCenter with 50 Agents.

I installed 1.4 onto a VM within VMWare Fusion on a co-located XServe I own. Actually performs better than the PIAF 1.3 server sitting in my office, less latency so less jitter.

I have installed it several times on different hardware and have seen no problems myself.

New Beta Download Site

Cybernetic Networks of Naples, Florida has generously offered to host our PIAF 1.4 beta releases and provide substantial bandwidth to facilitate expansion of the beta program.

The 32-bit PIAF 1.4 beta (supporting both Asterisk 1.4 and 1.6) is available now. And we hope to have the 64-bit version in place in the next day or two. Thanks!!

Here is the link to the new site.

I realize this is premature given Digium's lifecycle, but are there any early observations you can draw as far as 32bit vs 64 bit and 1.4 vs 1.6... in terms of stability/issues and general adoption?

Is 64bit still providing the massive performance increase compared to 32bit?

How badly is DAHDI interfering and complicating things? I've been following the various manufacturers, but I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel just yet.

Feel free to ignore, just curious :)

As best we can tell, Digium doesn't support 64-bit at all. Asterisk 1.6 still isn't ready for prime time. Ditto with DAHDI. Outside of that, Asterisk Life is good.

Running Well on Dell SC420 Box

After a minor glitch with a bad ethernet patch cable, I have PIAF 1.4 running well on my SC420 test box. No issues. I'm in the process of manually copying all my info from the production box to insure I don't move any problems by restoring the FreePBX backup. The production box was a converted Trixbox so I want to make sure no green rubs off on my test box until I can reformat and install PIAF 1.4 in production.

All looks rock stable at this point. Good work guys!

Running well on Everex gPC

I did a clean install on the gpc, then restored by freepbx backup and most everyting worked great. Only PBXIAF glitch was that the software had a difficult time finding my tdm400 board. After numerous tries, I was able to get genzaptelconf to see the board and configure it. I had to stop asterisk (amportal stop) run genzaptelconf -d I think then I ran genzaptelconf -v and saw it configuring correctly. Simply running genzaptelconf by itself did nothing. 10 minutes of messing around with that and everything is working great. The zap config then survived numerous reboots as I tested everthing.

I had one glitch related to memory. When I went to upgrade the memory on the gPC, I used a different memory speed. Bad idea, I know. The first problem was kernel panic on boot. Then when I fixed (I thought) the timing issues, the tdm board was not recognized. I removed the bad memory then went through the steps above to fix it.

The machine runs great now and Asterisk 1.4 fixed a few little issues that I had with 1.2. Thanks to the PBXiaF crew!

In a couple of hours (about 5 p.m. Eastern time), what we hope will be the final build of PIAF 1.4 will be in place on the beta download site. In order to use this beta, you'll need a password.

If you'd like to try it out, please send me a note and I will forward the password along. Comments and suggestions still are welcomed!

DO NOT RUN UPDATE-FIXES OR UPDATE-SOURCE WITH THIS RELEASE. NEITHER HAS BEEN UPDATED TO SUPPORT IT YET SO YOU MIGHT GET A BIG MESS!

Just a few of the new features

This is PBX in a Flash Version 1.4 (not to be confused with asterisk 1.4)

PIAF 1.4 32bit & 64 bit ISO CD's

1. Updated packages to what was current this morning - no long yum updates

2. Latest stable build of webmin

3. New downloader program with extra download for beta testers (Password required!)

For PIAF 1.4 based on Asterisk 1.4.21/zaptel 1.4.12 Load files

Still using the last stable version of Asterisk that uses Zaptel. Ast 1.4.21/Zap 1.4.12

Fixed genzaptelconf error due to digium changing things in the archive. Genzaptelconf no longer takes the -dsv so you can only use -v

Added the latest fail2ban

Updated indicators to show it is PIAF 1.4 not PIAF 1.3

Prepatched Asterisk with the DTMF patch so this does not need to be done again ON THE BETA

For PIAF 1.4 based on Asterisk 1.6

updated to include the current versions of Asterisk/dahdi (that actually compile on a non development machine!)

Added the latest fail2ban

Updated indicators to show it is PIAF 1.4 not PIAF 1.3

Support Programs

I am still working on the last version of update- scripts/fixes/source Once it is complete I will let you know. Currently Update-fixes/update-source is NOT compliant with PIAF 1.4 in the beta test phase so I recommend you DO NOT run thos 2 programs with THE BETA!

I will be releasing update-fixes first which will do no harm to the beta test. Update-fixes will update all installs of fail2ban to the very latest. If you are running the original it will install 0.8.3 for you (mandatory) if you are running fail2ban 0.8.3 which you installed with Wards script it will reinstall it. This is to accomplish an ongoing way to keep fail2ban updated when new releases or patches become available. It will back up all of your existing fail2ban conf files if you have customized Wards version. In future when update-scripts (and then sushi) is run it will check with our versioning server and update fail2ban if required and maintain your existing customized fail2ban conf files. I am currently finishing up testing with PIAF 1.3 and PIAF 1.4

If you want the latest version of Asterisk 1.4 with Dahdi you will still have to use the update-source but I have not added in the dtmf patch yet so you will have to upgrade by hand until I get that out the door.

Once the beta has finished it's test phase it will be copied over to the release folder for the masses.
