Hi All

I have just posted version 2.0 of the whole disk backup program. Some of the new features are

1. Improved configuration process
2. Faster processing
3. Email of all actions of the disk-backup.cron program
4. Critical modification of mindi to correct kernel panic experienced on a small number of installs.

Simply download the revised install document and install it.

Tested on a P3 800 and on a P4D, on both worked as a charm. Thank you Tom for everything, this site rocks!

Tom,
If we have the older version of your backup on our PIAF 1.1, do we have to do a clean install of PIAF to update to 2.0 of the backup script? or can we simply "remove the old /etc/cron.weekly/dailybackup.cron prior to installing version 2.0!"

I have installed the new version 2 of the mondo script and now get and error:

ftp:bind:address already in use

The conf file seems ok. and I removed my router to chk for conflict. This is also a brand new install of piaf. The box is in a DMZ. And I dont have any other user online at the ftp site.

good question! I recommend you actually remove a number of things. I suppose I should have included this in the script and maybe later tonight I will revise it for the moment do the following and then install the latest script

1. cd /etc/cron.weekly
2. mv the old mondo cron file to root
3. type the following in order
rpm -e --nodeps afio
rpm -e --nodeps buffer
rpm -e --nodeps mindi-busybox
rpm -e --nodeps mindi
rpm -e --nodeps mondo
rpm -e --nodeps mondo-doc

This should remove the traces of the old system

run the install-diskbackup.x script

configure the conf file as per the install directions

Should do it.

Tom

pm me your disk-backup.conf file sans password and i will have a look

Thanks, but it was my typo. deleted part of script. Sorry to bother.

something to do with mirrorlist.centos.org is down...perhaps maintenence???

make sure the file /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-mondo.repo exists.

if so try again later

As a followup I was able tp reproduce the error which seems to be related to problems with the mirrors. That being said it seems to be back up for now. I also have released version 2.01 of the install script which has some better error checking in it and some changes to the log files. I would recommend you download it and try to re install again.

I just did a total reinstall of PiaF, along with diskbackup (I was getting an error in saving voicemail messages, and it persisted despite reinstallation from a diskbackup save. I'm assuming that I now have v2, since I just installed it. The problem that I'm having is that the disk-backup.cron file appears to be a binary file. It is unlike the diskbackup.cron file that I'd edited with my previous installation. I'd like to get things so that I don't have to do a complete install again.
Thanks.

I feel like an idiot. I was looking at disk-backup.cron in /etc/cron.weekly, instead of disk-backup.conf in /etc/asterisk. The .conf file looks just like I was expecting it to. Sometimes it's best to not rely on memory, and to RTFM again.

I like this forum! you guys solve your own problems!

Okay my turn, I have been getting a completed iso saved in the backup and trying to use the copy to windows share feature. When completed I get a message on screen that looks odd to me because of the added spaces. "mounted 172.17.1.148 / demo"

I checked the conf and made sure there are none, tried samba-install, and I can smbclient //172.17.1.148/demo :banghead:
Any clue what I am missing??

Thanks,

so you don't get the file on the windows share? Sorry you are not being clear. Going on the assumption you are net getting a file saved across to the windows box (BTW what windows OS is it? If it is XP and a non server OS this may be your problem)

If it is w3k or w8k <shudder> then other things are at work.

Try doing it by hand and see if it is a windows problem

1. In the cli type

mount -t cifs //ipaddressofmachine/sharename -o /mnt/smbshare username=yourusernameonwindows,password=yourwindowspassword

All this on one line of course

try cp -v /boot/*.iso /mnt/smbshare

See what happens

if it works then you need to review the conf file if it doesn't it is a windows problem

I realize that this could be posted in the 'wish list' section, but since it directly relates to disk-backup, I decided to post it here.

I don't have an ftp server running on my linux desktop, nor do I have samba enabled. I do have ssh installed, both client and server. I have diskbackup setup to save to an smb disk, which then saves the iso files in the /mnt/smbmondo directory. I then later use sftp to transfer them to the backup machine. I'd like to see diskbackup use that ftp client so that I don't have to install either an ftp server or samba on my desktop. Thanks.

so you want an sftp client instead of the built in ftp client on your PIAF box. Then you could have the diskbackup program sftp into your remote backup device? Sound about right?

Your statement about running an ftp or samba server confuses me as the piaf does not have to run either for the disk backup to use the SMB connect or FTP to your backup. I have tried with several sftp program and so far none allow programatic connection to do batch jobs. All of the ones I reviewed insist you manually enter the username and password. This why it does not support sftp. If someone knows of an sftp client that will accept batch jobs for automation (IE bash supplied responses ) please let me know and I will drop it in.
