Hey All,
I have a user thats experiencing a 5 second delay from the second he answers his call til the other end of the line connects. Im at a loss for this, vitelity says they arent experiencing any problems so it has to be something on my end..

Can anyone please help or suggest how i would go about troubleshooting this issue???

Thanks,

Latency on the internet connection to Vitelity? Have you done any tracert or ping tests? What kind of firewall is it?

Well its a T1 connection, and its not behind a firewall. It does use an internal firewall however (IPtables/Fail2ban).

This morning the same user said he had a call come in and it was dropped. As if it failed to connect the two ends after a couple seconds. So this issue may be getting worse.. Can anyone tell me how to go about troubleshooting something like this??? Im a total noob, please excuse the lack of background knowledge..

Unfortunately there's a lot of things that can cause that kind of problem. I'm not an expert yet, but I would look into these things:

What does the status panel show the CPU as when the call commences? How much memory is on the server? Is there some spare?

On the T1 internet line - is there anything else running on it? Could it be saturated?

Is there possibly poor network cabling or a bad switch? Could the network the phone is on be saturated or not working properly?

Hi

By watching a SIP trace - sip set debug - and watching the full log as a call comes in, you may be able to identify whether the problem lies in the PBX, before it, or after it.

Vitelity says my trace looks good to them and there doesnt seem to be a problem on their end.. So the ball is back in my court. :banghead:

Network saturation is a possibility, ill have to monitor the bandwith throughout the day.. Im assuming watching wireshark would be the way to go on this one..

Joe, what kinds of things would i be looking for in the sip debug?? Any buzzwords or anything specific??

Thanks for the help guys!!
