It Was Back: SIP for GVoice

Hey, no fair putting articles out on Sunday. :angelb:

We've now added this to Incredible PBX, and it's a transparent part of the dialplan. So... just dial any 10-digit number, and Incredible PBX will first attempt to connect via Google-SIP and then will instantly fall back to GVoice to complete the call if there is congestion. This just saved Google a boatload of money. Great find!!!

How do we reverse engineer this into a running system, without a full re-install?

Generally speaking, wouldn't putting this as the default first route for NANPA numbers result in more failed attempts than successes? Does it matter? Would Google want all the failed attempts? Will they eventually ban an IP if it sends more failed INVITES than successful ones? Proceed with caution.

Google reportedly has handed out over 1,000,000 DIDs this past year. All of those are reachable via SIP now. Unless you're running huge phone banks for robocalling, I can't imagine individual SIP invites that get rejected would be problematic to a provider as large as Google.

Includes setup instructions for retrofitting existing systems to make outbound SIP calls to Google Voice numbers.

Maybe Google via SIP will work a little better. I've noticed that GoogleTalk on Asterisk does not do early media so that if you dial a number which gives an intercept recording, you just hear ringback instead of the recording. Just an observation and I wonder if anyone else has experienced this too...

Can someone find a person in the "Do no evil" part of Google's Voice world, and get a definitive answer on what they want to do?
