Just noticed that there's now a 2.9 Upgrade Tool module available in FreePBX 2.8/PBXIAF Purple.
What do the powers that be advise?
Any reason to upgrade?
Thanks!

I'm a beginner - I upgraded to 2.9 last week and had no problems.
<-I actually prefer 2.9->
My asterisk PIAF server is used by 5 LAN operators using 3CX softphones - if you are using IP-Phones or something more complicated than my setup, try testing the upgrade first on a non-production box.
I have around 3 months Linux/Asterisk/PIAF/Freepbx/Webmin experience and it has worked fine for me ;)

Figured :)
Are there any big reasons to upgrade?
And has anyone else tested things?
Thanks.

At least on my system (1.6), FreePBX shows a 2.9.0 BETA upgrade module, not a STABLE module.

So... I'm not touching it with a barge pole until they get up to 2.9.1 or 2.9.2 STABLE. Then again, I'm running 1.4 & 1.6 as production, not workbench systems. I can't afford to have my offices being guinea pigs. The users would squeak worse than the animals.

The biggest gain in 2.9 is the addition of features in Asterisk 1.8 that are not currently available with prior FreePBX releases. One of the cool features is the connectedline() command that gives you callerid back to the phone as to who answered the distant end. This gives Asterisk some features more like the proprietary systems offer. Camp-on/callback is another nifty feature.

I'd recommend you give it a read at the FreePBX site.

I'm running Asterisk 1.8.2 and FreePBX 2.9Beta1.10 with no issues via PIAF Purple. Asterisk 1.8 is about as stable as any other Asterisk version (except for continuing gripes about faxing issues.) I don't use Fax via Asterisk so it does not affect me. As always, load it on a test system and take it for a spin before you dive into it.

Indeed. :banghead:

I just got done rolling back a system from 2.8 to 2.6 because (unbeknownst to me) NvFax got broke after 2.6 (yes, I do generally live under a rock).

I don't use faxing enough to make the jump to HylaFax, and need both send and recieve so FFA was out.

Working well here

I've got 5 systems running it, in production after testing it on a couple not production units. I'm running asterisk 1.8.3 under it now. The biggest thing to me so far is that it gives the option to send parked calls back to the person who parked them instead of a default setting. It's a little thing, but to me seemed very illogical that it was missing previously. I have fax working just fine in and out with FFA and with hylafax. I've also had nvfax working since 2.7, but I am not using it now and don't remember what I did to get it...sorry. The only issue I am currently having is that for dahdi trunks, if I define each channel individually, outbound calling will only use the first trunk. The macro doesn't work to tell it to go to the next trunk. Unfortunately, I haven't tested this to know yet if it is asterisk or freepbx as I've upgraded both, in mentioning it, they've pointed at each other. I'm leaning toward it being an asterisk 1.8 change. The way around that is to use a dahdi group, so that's what I've done for now.

I'm not running 2.9 either, but in 1.8 I have had to run a DAHDI group as well, which is a bit of a pain as the default group is g0, I have to set-up an additional group to separate into a different inbound route for a different dba within the same company.

At this point it is considered a beta version, so there's that.

It will allow importing route and trunk dial patterns from a CSV file, for those who hate all those stupid little boxes they implemented in 2.8. There's no corresponding export function (yet), although if you really need to do an export, you can follow these instructions.

But, didn't I read somewhere that Caller ID Superfecta won't work with it?
