Looking for some Cisco guidance.

I've got a client that would like to incorporate their current Cisco 7945g phones. Looking around it seems that Cisco's are very temperamental, only work with some of their firmwares and need some specifically created config files. Is anyone out there running Cisco phones over PIAF? Maybe that could post some sample configs? The posts I see online are generally pretty old and I'm not thinking I can trust the content. I know certain 8.x firmwares work, but not 9.x and I don't even know what the current one is. All the 79xx phones should be unified, but I don't know the extent of it.

We had some Linksys phones a while ago that we got working, but it's been too long that I don't remember how. Maybe a little prodding in the old memory banks can stir some things up. Then again, maybe it's completely different.

Temperamental is a nice word for Cisco phones. This existing thread will get you started. The PIAF Endpoint Manager also has support for Cisco 7940 and 7960.

Cisco phones can be easy to setup like the 7960s or almost impossible like the 7941G - never got that one working with PiaF. So expect that it could be difficult. One thing that you will need is the firmware as Cisco phones download the firmware when they first reboot from the t*f*t*p server on PiaF

As Ward already pointed out the 'treasure trove' thread, you've got some reading to do For encouragement, I've gotten every single Cisco telephone to work via SIP or SCCP from flatfile 7940/60's to XML 79x1,2,5's and SCCP 7920,1,5... the *only* telephone I never got to function properly was an ancient 7931 (which would've been nice). The #1 problem you'll most likely encounter is typos and 'attention to detail', because they are picky indeed.

I got myself the CISCO 7931... this IP Phone...from the specs...says it is capable of using SIP instead of Cisco's proprietary SCCP.

I've been fiddling around with this Cisco 7931 and I can't get the damn thing to work like the Snom 300, Nortel 1535, or like the Yealink VP2009.

It is sooo darn furtrating that I want to toss it in to a shredder!

The Cisco series of phones gets frustrating with SIP. You have not seen frustration until you have to flash and configure a Cisco 7970. I have configured 7945's for SIP and asterisk before. Do you want some sample config files? Are these phones SIP flashed yet or are they SCCP? If they are not SIP flashed tell me and I can get you a link to the SIP firmware. Flashing a phone with SIP is 80% of the trouble.

You have not seen frustration until you have to flash and configure a Cisco 7970. I
