I've noticed an issue with the quality of inbound IAX trunks from Gold to Purple boxes (This isn't a bug report, or a request for help, just a request for comment more than anything)

Asterisk Versions

Gold version 1.4.21.2
Purple 1.8.3 or 1.8.3.2

Trunks from purple to Gold are fine, but the other way aren't. The voice is very choppy. Different firewalls, network layouts, etc in each place, and more than one server of each flavour.

I will see if later versions of Purple make any differenceover the next couple weeks, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone has noticed the same issue.

SIP trunks don't have the issue.

Remember that IAX2 in gold and purple are slightly different as I seem to remember. I have experienced similar problems until I updated to purple on all the systems. That being said I believe there was some IAX2 problems with earlier asterisk 1.8 versions.

I know I have to add some setting to allow iax2 in purple to talk to each other

calltokenoptional = 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
maxcallnumbers=16382

Yes, those settings are absolutely needed; doesn't work at all until you add them.

I'll try a newer version of purple soon. Does update-source take you to 1.8.5rc1 or only "less buggy" versions?

Update source was not intended to take you to rc versions sorry. It seems to me people have been using it however for that purpose. You could also use wards svn update....

Good luck with both options. I don't like to put any non production ready source on a production machine. I have IAX working just fine between 1.8.4.1

I'm going to try out 1.8.4.1 and see if that makes it work any better (just my home system can easily wipe). Might be a 1.8.3 type issue. Report back later.

This didn't fix the issue; it only exists on inbound calls from 1.4 to 1.8.x at the moment.

1.8.5 is no longer rc; was released on July 11.

I prefer the update-source method of upgrade because I don't know enough about the nitty gritty at that level to fix it, so do you have some plans to make available (there's no pressure, I just wondered) as I'd like to try that as well.

Well currently 185 is still beta to us thus 1841 is the standard install using the ISO

We may be changing that in the next few days
