Maybe I missed this somewhere, but is there a way or is there going to be a way to upgrade from an 1.0/1.1 to 1.2?

Thank you,
Michael

In a Word "No"

You could do a backup of your dynamic files and then scrub and reinstall using piaf 1.2 then do a restore.

That being said if you are using 1.1 and are running update-scripts/fixes/source you are pretty close to being 1.2

Why do you need to update?

Just to put it down where the goats can get it...

The PBX in a Flash design is intentionally different than "other builds." It was engineered to ALWAYS let you keep it up to date with current Asterisk source, current FreePBX source, and current updates to CentOS... if you want it. Those are the nuts-and-bolts of our aggregated distribution. So there really isn't much that 1.2 buys you unless you want to play with Asterisk 1.6 or have bought a new 64-bit machine.

In those two cases, you've pretty much got to start over because the code is so different. The new FreePBX backup utility makes it pretty simple to preserve your settings even with a new build on a different platform. And we'll have a better backup utility soon as well.

But where is the Backup files kept so we can retrieve it before restoring?

Hi

I would go further than Ward, and say that there is no discernible difference between a version 1.1 and a 1.2, provided that you have run update-scripts,fixes and source.

The main change is in the ISO, not so much in the payload, and what that brings in, that the previous version did not is:-
  • Up to date Centos 5.1 with no need to run yum update for a while.
  • Some ks.cfg files to install the system with different partition layouts. Different partitioning was available before, but you needed to do it manually during the install.
  • Netinstall - to allow you to install remotely, via a KVM switch, where you mount a virtual CD on the network somewhere.
  • An auto unattended install.
  • Improved installation method that will pick up the payload from a number of mirror sites, should ours be down (That's happened once)
  • The ability to use 64 bit operating system for 64 bit hardware.
  • Asterisk 1.6 installation that works.
  • There is some other stuff as well, including a check on the veracity of the payload to make sure it has not been corrupted.
So if you have machines in production, leave them alone, you will gain nothing by re-installing.

Bart,

A freePBX backup file will be found in /var/lib/asterisk/backups/<backupname>>

to backup and restore follow this procedure:-
  1. Update freePBX to the latest.
  2. backup
  3. download the backup to your PC
  4. re-install
  5. update FreePBX to the latest
  6. backup using the same name as above, this creates the directories.
  7. Put the backup in the same place from your PC
  8. restore via FreePBX
