Problem restoring backup. Ahhhh!!!

Hi all,
So i made a blunder of a move trying to restore an old PIAF build to a brand new purple install. the old one was running:

Sorry if the formatting is crappy. I really only wanted to move my extensions, trunk settings, ring groups, all routes, etc etc.. Just the basic configurations. But i may have just blown up my fresh install. Not a huge deal, i just have to redo the installer. My understanding is that the MONDO backup stuff creates images (.iso's) so you can reload exactly the machine you had. Wellll I want to upgrade everything to the most recent builds and move the config over. That doesnt seem to be happening. I have this message when i try to reload:

Ater this I did amportal chown, bc I thought the freepbx upgrade might be causing this error. now when i hit apply on the reload button i get "Error: Did not receive valid response from server." I may have bricked the dam thing..


Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

So how exactly did you restore? With what method?

I did a backup on the old machine, then i moved the backup file from /var/lib/asterisk/backups to the same location on the new machine. went into the gui in the new machine and ran a restore only selecting the system configuration settings.

Now i cant get rid of the apply settings button on hte gui. and theres an error on the dashboard reading:

Did you make sure that you had the exact same version of FreePBX on both machines?

No i didnt, and after the fact im seeing that that is somewhat vital.. any way to fix this specific problem?

I saw that issue and never really solved it. I just reloaded and went on with life. Sorry I can't be any more help.
My advice would be to assure the same version of FreePBX on BOTH boxes prior to backing up and upgrading. Unless you were on the same box and you wiped it already. Then try and manually change the version on the new load and restore again.

No worries, thanks for replying anyways. Thankfully i didnt wipe my production box, im replacing it with new hardware. which is why im reluctant to try a mondo backup.

Side question.. Seeing the versions my original box was at above, which version of PIAF (gold, silver, purple) would be the closest to a seamless transfer?

Also, im assuming whichever version i choose to install its not going to match up with the FreePBX version of my old box. so how can i downgrade my new build of freepbx? Or do i upgrade my old version? maybe theres a link somewhere im not seeing?

Asterisk version should not matter too much unless you have a bunch of custom dial plan. There was one character that was changed between 1.4 and 1.6/1.8 and that was from the | (pipe) to the , (comma).
I would make a full backup with the current FreePBX version on your old box and then upgrade it to the latest available 2.8 (NOT 2.9!). Then do another backup. That's the one you want to restore from on the new box.

Right, by default now all PIAF installs have 2.8. No need to upgrade to something that doesn't 100% work with everything in PIAF. I was certainly not saying that backup/restore wouldn't work in 2.9 - it is just for the above reason. Don't break what isn't broken.
