Welcome to the forums, Frank.
What exactly are you dialing to access your voicemail box?
I don't recall ever coming across a recording that called Asterisk's voicemail a "Voice Mailbox System" - only "Comedian Mail."
Are you running PBX in a Flash?

lgaetz,

I don't recall any variable to override any of the password settings for voice mail.

Stating the obvious to most of us: The easiest thing to do is either set the initial voice mail password to something OTHER than the extension (good security practices!) or have the user run through the voice mail setup and change the password (which as we know is why the password gets set the same as the extension; it flags the system to force the user change the password which is what is happening here).

Of course, the password should be five numbers or longer to prevent voice mailbox hacking...

I thought you had meant some variable to override the password setting. I know about those. ;)

The system should still force the user to change the password if it's set the same as the extension number regardless of what those are set for, if I remember correctly. If not, I'm going to blame it on the lack of caffeine - I've given up coffee for the time-being. :ack2:

Besides following the recommendations above, make sure you have placed a password on the extension. You can completely bypass the need to enter a password if you are calling from the extension by following post #10 here : freepbx.org/forum/freepbx/users/automatic-voicemail-login

I have used this technique for years. Remember, to activate it, you need to re-save (submit) the extension again after the script has been updated. If you are dialing from the outside, you will still be required to enter your password.
