Hi All,

Just wondering if it's safe to update to 1.8.7.1 asterisk yet? I am running 1.8.5.0 and need to get a couple of little annoyances sorted that seem to be fixed in the new version.

Also, what's the best way to update the Centos. I heard that there is issues with doing an update-source and it moving you to Centos 6. I am currently on 5.6. Can I just allow webmin to update the packages?

Anyway, any thoughts would be much appreciated.

You cannot upgrade from centos 5.x to centos 6.x this is the way the upstream providers of centos want it. Sorry you are out of luck you will have to scrub and reinstall.

1.8.7.1 is the default version for PBX in a Flash 2.0.6.x and seems to work ok. That being said 1.8.8.0 is just around the corner.

I never seem to be able to word things rights. my mind and my fingers can't line up. What I was wondering was not the ability to upgrade to Centos 6, but rather if I can just update the current version of Centos 5.6 without any issue. I use to be able to do this with the update-source, but I had seen an issue on the posts with the upgrade pushing a higher version of Centos, maybe not 6 but 5.7 or 5.8. I can't seem to find the link. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated!

within update-source there are 2 things you can do to accomplish these goals.

1. when it asks do you wish to upgrade your kernel choose yet after it has upgraded the system will reboot (yes this is mandatory) then rerun update-source

2. Then it will ask you if you want to upgrade using yum update choose yes. After it is complete the system will reboot (yes this is mandatory)

3. Choose which version of asterisk in the 1.8 series you wish to upgrade to by editing /etc/pbx/digiumsource.conf. Current recommended one of PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.X is 1.8.6.0. Save this file.

4. rerun update-source again (and you thought this would be easy?) when it gets to the step where is asks if you want to download the latest version of digiumsource.conf choose NO

5. your install should continue and install asterisk etc. Compile it all and reboot (Yes this is requred)

6. Done

Good luck.
