Does someone have a good 4 to 8 ports FXO gateway to recommand ?? I have got a Mediatrix 1204 here in test and it seems really crappy with asterisk, the configuration are hard and the service from Mediatrix is completely inexistant. They are giving service trhu their reseller, what it does is when you buy a used gateway you can't get any service, i got the same problem with a Audiocode device. I have used SPA-3102 but they are really bad units, the FXO isn't usable with Asterisk, it generate so much echo it is incredible that a coimpany can sell those device.

I would llike to have a gateway to be able to have a failover on remote location, like having 1-2-3-4 lines in it and sending them to a remote PIAF server, but when the internet goes down, i would like to have the gateway send the line directly to some internal Aastra 57i phones and same thing for outgoing, when the 57i unregister from the PIAF server, send the call directly to the gateway. Is it something doable ?? I have seens the Grandstream GXW410x Analogue gatteway series, are they good units ?? What about PSTN echo??? and is it possible when the registration to the server is lost to send the incoming phone call to a phone directly ?? If you have any other suggestion go ahead, it would be really awesome. Thanx a lot!

I use a cisco spa8800 with no echo issues so far.

I second the vote for the spa8xxx product line. They connect via ethernet so they can easily switch over to a secondary server should the primary one fail.

They are easy to program and just work.

Thanx guy but like i said, since cisco have sell their SPA-3102 and they are not even usable for me and they do nothing about that, for sure i will never buy back from them. I would like to have some come back about the Grandstream gateway since i like the fact that they have 4 choice of FXO/FXS gateway 4-8 ports, it is really nice and i try to normalize our system the most possible. So if someone is using Grandstream FXO, please let me know how it is going for you. Thanx a lot!

to be fair to cisco, the 3102 is originally sipura junk - expecting them to redesign a low-end POS is not reasonable.

I understand that, but the only option i got from cisci is 4 FXS 4 FXO or 8 FXS. What if i need 8 FXO and 4 FXS ???? i can not do it with cisco, and this is exactly what i need at 1 customer location. so 1 GXW-4104 and 1 GXW-4008 would be a perfect setup without any loss, but what i need to know is, are they reliable ? Sound quality/echo ??

Im using the 8 port audiocodes boxes and now that they are setup i havent touched them in over a year.

They work awesome. But you are very right about support and help. it is nonexistent.

I bought from 888voipstore and bought their support for them which was a huge help. I would have never got them working without them.

I don't want to encourage company that doesn't support their product, in the case you buy it used or don't buy support from their reseller, you are gona have no firmware update no setup help! that's why i use only Aastra phone, their tech are really nice, they support their products, they don't have gateway, so grandstream seems to support their product too, but are they good ?

well, i think you are just being unreasonable, but that is your choice. best of luck.

Two additional notes -- MY experience is that everytime I have been near a Grandstream product it's been junk !! You experience may be different.

As far as charging for support and firmware, If you want good gear it will cost money either in the initial cost of the product or the support / software. ATAs do not sell in near the quantities that phones do so the comparision to Aastra phones is not valid.

The Audiocodes package seems reasonablely priced to me.

Does some of you guy have worked with Patton gateway ?? They seems pretty nice, i can have mixed configuration of FXO/FXS and even T1/PRI, does someone have some feedback on those products ? Are they performing well? The price seems similar to Audiocodes price, but their web site have a support link that is way better then Audiocodes! they even have firmware update for it!! Thanx for any feedback!

I talked with AudioCodes at Astricon today, and bitched at them for their actions in the past. They tell me they have changed their tune, and now fully support their product in-house. They have an Asterisk box setup and talking to their devices on display... so perhaps they have turned a corner and are worth taking a look into.

I'm still once-bitten-twice-shy, but thought you might like to know.

OK! it is a good news! i still don't find any firmware upgrade on their web site neither application note for Asterisk or FreePBX. It would be nice to have some more info on those products!

I've used Grandstream 4104's and 4108's and their Handytone ATA's. I still can't use port 1 on the 4108's reliably, but other than that they seem to have all the settings I've needed to make things work properly. They do need to be rebooted every once in a while. For a small office that wouldn't mind doing that, it'd be OK as the reboot is under 15 seconds. Their phones just aren't stable enough.

To be honest, we've been looking at other brands as they just aren't all that great for audio quality. It's difficult to find that magic setting between echo / silence suppression/ random audio sounds.

Does some of you have tried Patton gateway?? I am looking at the 4FXO 4 FXS gateway, they seems to be pretty solid and Patton are supporting their device!! Any insight on those gateway?

Hi

What is your current journey with the VOIP gateways? I am in the same boat and about to recommend one to a customer.

What is your findings with echo cancellation? Are they any good?

Since this post, i have 2 4FXO patton gateway and 1 4/FXO 4/FXS gateway and 4 24/FXS installed and they are all performing good, no echo at all. PATTON are supporting their devices perfectly. They are a little sketchy to configure the first time, but i can help you on this manner. Once you figure it out, it is pretty straight forward! And they can do everything you can ask for. I recommand them 200% i will never buy another gateway.

Thanks Speedy2k for the vote of confidence. I really needed that.

Now I have to decide if I want to go with the SPA8800 or the Patton. Since they're about the same price and Cisco is the more familiar brand to ME, I am leaning strongly toward this based on the experience of another user from this form. I will might stick with the SPA8800 depending on availability to order. If I do ended up with the Patton, I will definitely reach out to you for help. Thanks again for responding so fast and sharing your valuable experience!!

No problem! i haven't tried the 8800 one, but have some 3102 with 1 FXO and they are pure junk!! no one have been able to trasmit PSTN conversation without echo. Like i said, the big difference about PATTOn and all other gateway provider is the avaibility of their tech to support you directly. It is for me when installed into a client system, the primary reason for buying them. You call they answer!! it is worth the extra box they are seilling it!
