I am putting together a phone system for my office at the moment, and ordered a couple of different phones for some testing, to see what kind of phone we should get for the rest of the office.

The 57i is the winner hands down, but the whole office doesn't need all of these features. Has anyone mixed the various 5xi series phones together in the same office?

I notice that the config located at the t*f*t*p server is named aastra.cfg. Will this same config file work for all versions of the 5xi series phones, or how do I seperate the config files so that the 53i phones know what config file to be looking for?

Thanks

Hi Jeremy, I'm going to post in order to put our PM thread in a public place.

Yes mixing Aastra's do work just fine. Ideally, the aastra.cfg file can hold the global parameters for the entire 5xi mix, with separate unique config files (phonesmacaddress.cfg) containing specific programing information for each model or particular needs of each phone.

In my case the aastra.cfg file is built by Ward and has all the xml and button programing that is clearly specific to the 57i. In order to get my lone 53i programed correctly, it also uses the unique mac based config file which contains button programing information and corrects (or overrides) the button programing in the aastra.cfg file. It's importain to note, the 53i does use both files. It gets the time server IP, missed call handling, and a few other global parameters from the aastra.cfg file, but specific button programing the mac based file.
