hello, i have a new aastra 57i that boots and works fine for 120 seconds then unregisters, then reregisters for bit, repeats cycle. The display says not in service while it's unregistered and calls to the extension go straight to voicemail.

i have cleared the phone and reset to factory, per another forum post, with no luck. I ran sip debug on the peer, and found that one of the REGISTER messages returns 401 UNAUTHORIZED.

anyone have any ideas? this is my first aastra 57i running on PIAF 1.2, so troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. Phone firmware is 2.2.x

thanks in advance,
happy

thanks for the link ward, but the nerdvittles script is what I used to set up aastra.

I am running piaf 1.2, 32-bit, asterisk 1.4

anyone else see this problem? find a fix?

Yes, I'm experiencing the exact same issue... but due to prioritization (it works with older firmware), I've not gone so far as to find a fix as yet. These problems with lockups, 'not registered', and such are known problems & date back quite a ways (Aastra knows about it, but are as yet unable to pinpoint). I've not tried v2.2.1 though, I will before too long.

Rather than link to another forum, I'll simply copy & paste what I had written:

I've got a site w/ 20x Aastra 57i CT's, and they're all behaving the same way...

Firmware 2.0.2
Phones operate exactly as should

Firmware 2.1.2
Phones fall to 'not registered' yet still funtional, only reboot fixes (old thread discussing this)

Firmware 2.2.0
Phones are cycling in and out of registration w/ SIP 408 errors (over the coarse of several minutes). That is, that one minute the phone will be registered and working 100% just fine... and 10 minutes later it looses registration with the system for a couple minutes and re-registers again.

^^^ this is running a distro similar to PiaF (asterisk 1.4).
This site also has 7971G-GE's that operate perfectly.

anyone from aastra monitoring these forums and care to comment?

The last reply from Aastra concerning my posts was:

the most likely cause of the problem is that the phone is rejecting the REGISTER response from the server. Can you post the SIP REGISTER and response messages?

Again, I've not deemed it a high priority since it's working on old firmware, and haven't replied (I will when I get some time).

For the short term, I'd drop back to the 2.2 firmware and see if that fixes the problem. I've never seen it on our 57i's running the 2.2 firmware. If you still have a problem, you can drop back further. After about 4 firmware tries, I'd think we can rule out an Aastra problem and start looking at the way your system is configured.

thanks all, will try 2.0.2 firmware and post success

i will try the 2.0.2 firmware tomorrow and let you know if this resolves the registration auth failure

You lose a lot of functionality between 2.2 and 2.0.2. I'd start with 2.2 and work backwards ONLY IF NECESSARY.

Any update on this issue, looks like I might be seeing that same problem.

In the last 24 hours I have:

1) Stopped using OpenDNS as my DNS source.
2) Increased Aastra Transaction Timer to 5000.
3) Populated the Backup Server and Backup Register fields with same info from primary Backup and Register fields.

After 20+ hours the problem has disappeared. I'm going to wait a few days and then reverse my settings starting with number three.
