Every system I have installed to this point has been a full fledged server. I always had two network cards. I would dedicate one to voice and one to data, this was the best way and rock solid. In the past, on my very first install, I attempted to use vlans with an Intel gigabit nic, and although it worked, it was flaky, constantly losing all network connectivity.

Does anyone have any experience using the Acer AspireRevo AR3700-U3002 with vlans? Is it stable?

Well then, I guess i'll have to buy one and test it myself. I'll let everyone know.

Is anybody running this box without vlans for a smaller install successfully?

I've never used vlans but I suspect the Acer is using a crappy nic such as Realtek. You shouldn't expect a Realtek Nic to perform as good as an Intel. If you need this form facter most will have either Realtek or Atheros nics.

Perhaps there were other issues surrounding the instability of your vlans.

If your using this in a business setting, then consider the Supermicro Atom motherboard. it has dual Intel Nics in it.
