Hi All, Brand new here but been driving asterisk for a while and running PiaF for a couple of years so big thanks to all who write and help with it.

I would like to play a pre-recorded name for some callers then follow the normal dialplan, eg

if the incoming Caller ID is 01782 123456 look to see if 01782123456.wav exists and if it does play

"Hello" + 01782123456.wav + " Sorry we can't take your call right now but please leave a message"

Is there a module/facility that already does this or if not I can probably write an AGI script but I am not really sure how to integrate this into the standard PiaG dialplan.

Thanks in advance...

Simon

PS - Really sorry if this is already answered somewhere but I have googled and googled my google-fu is usually strong.

How many people are you looking at doing this with? If it is just a few (ie family members and close friends on a home system) you can create a custom incoming call route for each desired caller ID that you want to hear the custom message. Then you can send them to a dedicated announcement message or virtual voicemail box.

Obviously this isn't going to scale well for a larger installation and I think you are on the right track thinking about a custom dial plan. My skills end with the first suggestion however. ;) Sorry I cannot help you with your initial idea.

Thanks Brian, I can see how that would work but I am wanting a few more - maybe 100 or 1000, using AGI I could use MySQL for lookups.

Everything I have wanted is already in PiaF when I know where to look but I think I might need to learn how to add AGI to my PiaF

Thanks Igaetz (love the sig)

Dynroutes might be just what I wanted - I will do some experimentation... Ta :-)

Igaetz, Pure genius, thank you. Not only have you solved my question but you have shown me how to add my own dialplans for custom work.

Why did I want the Caller's Name announced?

Long story - probably best ignored!

Somewhere around 1997 I was leaving the RAF and setting up as an IT consultant I ordered an ISDN2e (BRI) line from British Telecom and was looking for an ISDN PBX to sit on the end of it.

I saw an advert in the Demon magazine by Andrews and Arnold who were selling Network Alchemy Cybergear Gold equipment so I called but was put through to voicemail where I left my details.

Later that day I was called back by Adrian Kennard but I was out so he left a message.

When I called back I once again got voicemail (ships that pass...) but this time it said "Hello Simon Faulkner Please leave a message" and I was blown away by the name announcement so I left the message "I don't know how you did that but I want it!"

I bought the Cybergear and the Andrews and Arnold - Q931 'Penguin' and had many happy years before discovering Asterisk and moving through to PiaF but somewhere along the way I lost the ability to announce but now, thanks to you folks in this forum I have it back again.

Now I must go and record announcements for all my contacts - enjoy the holidays :-)

Well, I added a simple web page to my server today. It presents all the numbers from the cdr in descending order of how many times they have called and gives a 'Record' and an 'Ignore' link.

If you press record the phone rings, you pick up, record the name then hangup and it stores the recording, if you press ignore it marks the record and not needing a recording.

If I do a few every day I will have them all by next year!

I do love being able to make the phone system do (almost) exactly what I want!

Thanks all :-)
