My wife is from the Carribean, and her mother had someone call her house phone to explain that her son had been in an accident and was at the hospital and needed money for life saving surgery. They offer to have someone come by to pick up the money to take to the hospital. If he wouldn't have answered his cell phone while at work, she could have fallen victim. They really play on your emotions and my guess is that many elderly people don't think very straight when coming out of the fog of disastrous news and become easier prey for these con-artists.

Every other day in the news up here someone is falling victim to people posing as the Canada Revenue Agency telling them they owe back taxes and will go to jail immediately if they don't pay. They ask for itunes gift cards as well.

A fool and his money are soon parted, I'm sorry to say.
