For those that have purchased Obihai devices and that like to play (and especially if you are one of those that set up an early version of the Skype-to-Asterisk gateway, and therefore are familiar with having to set up a mini-desktop that you can access using VLC) you might find this interesting:
Another possible way to bridge Asterisk to the OBiTALK network
The point is that while you can use an Obihai device as a gateway between Asterisk and the OBiTALK network (something I have shown how to do in previous articles), there may be situations where you would want Asterisk to be able to place or receive calls to/from the OBiTALK network without going through an actual OBi device. Well, it appears that some OBi users in Hong Kong have figured out how to do it, and they were even nice enough to publish the instructions in English (though I believe that there may be some images in the post that cannot be seen unless you register, but the registration process is in Chinese, so that kind of stops those of us who speak English only).
Anyway I just wanted to call this to your attention because I know how much some PiaF users like to be on the bleeding edge of things. I'm just thinking that this could possibly come in handy in situations where you have a user with an OBi device in another country and they can reliably connect to the OBiTALK network but not to your server, or maybe you don't want to open your firewall to connections from that country, or for some other reason would prefer to route their calls via the OBiTALK network.
