Dear Customer,

We are happy to announce the release of a beta feature for Anveo Direct service. With this new feature, Anveo Direct can allow you to preserve the original caller ID when the call is routed through your PBX and then forwarded to another destination using your Anveo Direct account.

Please note that this functionality applies only to inbound calls routed through your Anveo Direct account. If you receive incoming calls through another provider, this feature will not work. However, you can take advantage of Anveo Direct's limited time free porting of US numbers to use this feature.

As always, we remain committed to delivering secure, reliable voice solutions that meet evolving industry needs.

I got the same message but they've always carried the caller-id that came into the PBX and went out over Anveo-Direct trunks for call-forward or ring-group to outside number.. I have no DID's with them. Maybe they're restricting that now.

I believe this is because of the STIR/SHAKEN caller ID authentication. The old way, your PBX forwards the call to the new destination, which degrades the STIR/SHAKEN caller ID auth level. This new way, the VOIP service provider forwards the call to the new destination, preserving the high grade of STIR/SHAKEN caller ID auth.

I just noticed my calls across Anveo-Direct were rejecting as not authorized. The PBX was jumping to the next provider so I had not noticed the problem. Since I don't have any Anveo DID's, I had to go to my account and set allowed DID's in their preferences settings. Its a pain because you have to let Anveo originate a call to each number you add and you must respond with a verification code before your numbers become verified. They now also force you to preface the number with the country code (+1 or 1) to accept a call from your PBX. Kind of a pain, but I jumped through the hoops and have it working now. I will probably dump Anveo Direct once my funding to them is depleted. BulkVS has been rock solid but I've kept Anveo for occasional international calls. Its too easy to speak with international friends via various apps rather than using the PBX.

Setting up STIR SHAKEN on Anveo-Direct might also fix this not authorized rejection issue:

Indeed, Anveo is no longer accepting retransmission of an incoming caller id over its outbound sip trunks when the PBX forwards the call, unless the incoming caller id is part of your verified DIDs.
Rather than blocking the call they could have stripped the caller id from the call and put the call through. This way it would have been left to the discretion of the final destination to accept or reject the call without caller id.
I'm trying to hack the dial plan so that the forwarded call shows one of the verified phone numbers while the original caller id goes into the caller name field. I remember having done something similar some time ago on my older system which worked well. But so far I couldn't make it work on iPBX-2025.

@Halea Anveo will accept retransmission of incoming caller ID IF you upload your STIR/SHAKEN certificate and key so their STIR/SHAKEN authenticated caller ID system can sign your call's caller ID.

This would violate STIR/SHAKEN and the Trust in CallerID Act. They are not allowed to strip away the CallerID, they can replace it with a known CallerID but they cannot just strip it away. On top of that if the call is truly anonymous (i.e. no CallerID) then STIR/SHAKEN states the call must be signed by AnveoDirect with a C (maybe a B) level attestation. The STIR/SHAKEN header and details must still be part of the call.

Sure all a person needs to do is register with the FCC, get a OCN, get an SPC token and then get their certificate. On top of that they will need to submit a full plan showing their STIR/SHAKEN status to the RMDB (RoboCall Mitigation Database). So all you need to do for this to work is spend about $1,000/year (need to renew your certs and RMDB filing each year, all of which costs money) and be subject to all FCC rules and procedures including the quarterly and annual filings that need to be done. As well as decide are they going to be Contributors which means remitting taxes to the FCC on behalf of their customers (or themselves). Oh and you also need to determine the attestation level of the call to send to AnveoDirect so they can sign it correctly with your cert. Also since the AnveoDirect STIR/SHAKEN setup is for any call you want to sign (they are signing for you) it costs money each call to sign unless you're using AnveoDirect for termination.

I'm not sure $75+/month (paid in annual payments) is really cost effective for people that are doing this stuff for personal use only.
