For those of you who have not looked at ASTAssistant lately, go take a look. http://www.astassistant.com

Pay NO attention to the screen shot, scroll down to the bottom of the page and download the BETA.

The interface has been drastically overhauled, and has turned me into a constant user of it. I always thought the developer had some interesting stuff, but I found the layout lacking. No more :)

It is freeware, but not open source. This, combined with the authors choice of language (RealBasic) disappoints me, but oh well. If I could get a hold of the source, I would rewrite it in C++ or C# and add some stuff in a heartbeat.

Totally Agree!

Greg, I definitely agree with you on this.... It has matured a lot and offers a great deal of functionality (especially being freeware)

We use it internally and hope to deploy at a few sites... It is a wonderful alternative to HUDlite and iSymphony and very easy to setup..
Astassistant gives managers and receptionists a great tool for having visibility in an organization (wow that really sounded like a commerical - sorry)

I wish more people could get involved as their forum doesn't seem very busy... Overall very promising....:wink5:

I suspect that if he changed to an open source project with code available there would be a whole lot more interest. I would love to see some changes like jabber support rather than IRC for chat, as well as support for monitoring multiple PBX's. I use a multiple branch office arrangement and would love to be able to see extension status on all 3 from one app.

I was excited when you said ASTAssistant's interface was new & improved... and I was pleasantly suprised to find it really was! Aesthetics has always been his bane, and they are much better now. I must disagree though, that iSymphony still has a vastly better interface (albeit not nearly as vast now)... I'm excited for JT, and hope this represents a new branch in his development. I wouldn't count on this going OSS (I *really* wish FOP would), this is his baby... and he's done well for himself.

I loaded it and it looks great, but when I park a call it announces the park zone to the caller.

I do not expect him to go open source, I just wish he would!! :)

I love this program been using it almost a year now. I do believe he does have it open source but you have to ask for it. I know when he first started out I had to make a change for internal use and had no problem doing it with the source he provided.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the kind words on ASTassistant. Its fun doing the project and helping others.

Keep those suggestions coming and I'll get to them as soon as I can.

PIAF......thanks for all the hard work.

I tried to download this today to check it out and my virus scanner went crazy. VBS/Autorun.VF is what I think it said. Anyone else have issues or am I getting a false alarm? BTW this is the beta version I am d/l ing

Downloaded a few das ago

I downloaded the beta version a few days ago, and my scanner (SEP11) didn't have any issues with it.
BTW - very nice app!

okay I have downloaded the new Astassistant beta but i have one issue. how to you call your voice mail or send callers to voicemail. i see the ctrl+drag but it always asks to pick an extension? i just left the @default setting in the voicemail section of the options if that is correct. am i missing something obvious?

Why doesn't he release the source and make it more powerful by additions the public could add? Does he do customizations of it and recieve revenues based upon that?

I read in an old thread that the source was included. Sure would be nice to have alternatives to HUD.
