Here's a question that I have been meaning to ask.
Does Asterisk acts as a proxy to call other endpoints outside of the peers range?
Example.
There is one server at "location A" with a PRI. Phones there connect to it via a phone LAN, different to the Data LAN. Phone LAN has no gateway. No problem everyone is happy.
The server has two interfaces, one for the phone line, and another one on the data side with internet. Again, the Phone LAN has no gateway to the internet.
Then, we have "Location B" and "location C" which they connect to the server using NAT registrations or via VPN through the data network.
When trying to call from a registered endpoint at location B or C to an extension in the Main location A. Does it matter if the phone at location A has a gateway to go out? Does the call go through the server's internet connection?
In other words, when you call extension to extension on registered phones on a the same server, but these endpoints are in different LANs. Do they create a peer to peer connection or the voice stream goes through the server.
Thanks in advance.
