Good news in the PBX in a Flash Neighborhood. Each time an administrator hits the PIAF Menu on their server, it generates an RSS Feed request to pbxinaflash.com to retrieve the latest security updates. In June (which is typically a slow month with summer vacations underway), we received over 16 MILLION requests for rssfeed.xml. That's the closest thing we have to an indication of the volume of PBX in a Flash servers in use around the world, but it sounds pretty good to us. And the PIAF Forum isn't doing too badly either...

Great!

I wonder if it would be possible to use these stats to try to estimate the number of PIAF live installs ... e.g. by counting

1) the number of unique public IPs (with appropriate user-agent) that retrieved rssfeed.xml
2) the number of unique public IPs (with appropriate user-agent) that retrieved rssfeed.xml at least two (2) times

PS: The pfSense project published such stats here

As much as we'd like to think that folks check their servers every day, we find it much more likely that people look when there's a problem or they need to make a change. So, if anything, these numbers are probably low. It also doesn't include those that mainly check their servers by accessing FreePBX directly or via SSH. In any case, we have the old stats but we don't have the actual logs so deciphering unique public IPs is probably not in the cards. Good idea though.

You could always ask the PRISM project to look into it? ;)

And also many people who are used to admin on a PIAF box will link directly to the admin section and not go through the main portal. So again I think the figures are going to be showing on the low side. How many companies would give their eye teeth for these sorts of coverage figures!
