We have a RPI setup with asterisk and are looking for the simplest way to transition. Taking the recommendation we would choose vestalink. I have some doubts about porting in case i have a problem it i fear the # will be hard to port again.

I also loose the ability to simply click the button in google chrome and send an sms :(

Im preferable to simply having the GV send the call to the obi which has the vestalink # on it which is fine for incoming. But i am unsure if outgoing calls will show the GV or vestalink # on receivers CID.

For outbound Vestalink CID, you can set your GV number after the system confirms that you own the number. This is called spoofing on their system.

thanks, i just went through that
however incoming and outgoing calls are not functional due to asterisk and i am unsure as to which changes should be made

Did you check out Ward's setup guide: http://nerdvittles.com/?p=9286
(Note that it talks about obivoice, but obivoice is now vestalink) I set up a test trunk on my raspi and it works quite well, well enough that I signed up :)
What exactly is not working for you?

Ive been using Vestalink since it was Obivoice. I still use my GV number and have GV forward incoming calls to Vestalink and have Vestalink spoof the outgoing callerid to be the same as my GV number. Works great. So something is wrong with your setup. Walk through the instructions again and if you are still having issues, then please start posting log entries that pertain to you trying to make or receive a call.
