First sorry for the odd header... don't really know how to title the question...

So now for the question, I have a possible customer that wants to move to a Hosted PBX, and well PIAF seems to fit the bill (it did for my other customer). They currently have a bonded T1 (3M) that handles both data and voice. The voice is utilizing a COMDIAL, older and basically uses standard lines and phone but with the ability to answer multiple lines, etc.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to have the same type of setup but with PIAF in place of the COMDIAL, in other words can a setup be designed that uses the "hybrid" Voice/Data line. The part Im confused on is the ability for the 3M line to allocate channels for voice and data dynamically. Is that just a function of the line? Could I just plug the PBX into the network with a Digital single port Sangoma card and POOF, we have lift off?

Im sure there is more to it then that... so any guidance appreciated!

thanks!

I do not have experience this this kind of connection and can't quite figure out how it would work but admittedly I don't have a lot of experience with the Telco back end world. Isn't it possible the bonded T1's are simply traffic managed to prioritize VOIP and are using SIP? You'd need to talk to the Telco to see what they're actually delivering (ie is it a PRI and a T1, or is it really bonded T1's; that is different). If they are simply delivering a bonded T1, you can probably just set it up using SIP but the Telco will have to give you the target SBC. If it is indeed some kind of hybrid connection then more information is needed from them.

atsak is correct. It is a function of your carrier. Most of my installations are done using a similar product from Telepacific. It is their Smartvoice product. You subscribe to as many data circuits as you need; can be T1s, fiber, Ethernet Over Copper (EOC), etc. They install an IAD at the site. The IAD handles VoIP prioritization. The IAD will have a network port for access to the Internet, a PRI port if you are using PRI handoff, a network port if doing SIP handoff. There is also an amphenol plug for a 66-block for FXS ports used for fax or any analog devices/lines
