I have a couple PIAF instances running and have noticed that the reports tab on 1756 has a new column called Destination Channel that now keeps a record of what trunk the call went out on. I like this feature very much.

My previous installs that are still live are 1755 and they do not have this Dest Ch column. So I assume this is something that came with 1756.

They are all FreePBX version 2907 and Asterisk 1860.

My question is two fold.

1. Is there a way to get the Dest Ch to show on the 1755 instances?

2. Is there a way to upgrade the 1755 to 1756 or now 1757 without doing a fresh install?

I have run update programs, source and fixes several times and while it has updated everything else, the PIAF version stays the same.

That sounds like a FreePBX issue. Have you checked that all your FreePBX modules are up to date?

Wow, thanks. I will give that a go. I couldn't seem to find that thread in my searches.

About my second question though, is there a way to upgrade a PIAF install from 1755 to a later version?

I will also second this question! What specifically do you hope to accomplish from upgrading to a more recent version of Centos?

:beatdeadhorse5:

This is a personal rant of mine but hey I write PIAF! PIAF is not like WINDOZE! It does not have to be upgraded every 10 minutes so the blackhats can't break in. The only time you may need to upgrade the OS is when there is a VERIFIED security problem with the existing version of Centos you are currently running.

You really should look at PIAF as an appliance instead of a computer. I liken it to a dishwasher; you install your dishwasher to do specific things. It rarely needs maintenance and when was the last time you had to upgrade your dishwasher's Operating System?

You may need a service call if a particular module in the dishwasher is proven failure point. So how many times have people had to do this? In our analogy the module could be asterisk which sometimes has problems after it is released.

Also expanding on this analogy how long do you use your dishwasher? Till it breaks! Then you replace it. What happens if a new feature comes out on a brand new model that you can't live without? Do you try to upgrade your existing dishwasher to add this feature? Usually NO! Instead you buy a new dishwasher and install it.

One of the few reasons you might want a new version of Centos is driver support.Centos 6 supports many more types of hardware than centos 5. The downside is that with every release of Centos more of the older drives are dropped from support. Thus if you are trying to install on ancient hardware using centos 6 it might not work. Once you get PIAF installed however why do you need newer (unless a verified security hole needs to be patched and it can only be done at the OS level)

grrr.... bad day trying to get the 64bit PIAF 2060 down to a manageable size

I am not talking about updating CentOS. I already have that at 5.7 per a webmin update. I am talking about the actual version of PIAF 1.7.5.5 or 1.7.5.6 vs the current version available for download 1.7.5.7?
There are obviously more changes than just the version of the underlying OS since I have the DEST CH column in my 1.7.5.6 instances but not in the 1.7.5.5 ones as well as there being slightly different modules.
As for the reason why, well that is my personal preference. I enjoy it.

Sorry buddy no difference under the hood between 1755 - 1757!

The PIAF created and maintained programs are constantly updated however the 1755 on refers to the version that was INSTALLED and not the version that is RUNNING. If you do your update-programs you are running the latest version of PIAF. You want the latest version of centos within versions (You cant go from centos 5 to centos 6!) run update-source/ You want the most recent version of asterisk run update-source. You want the most recent version of freepbx use their update mechanism.

This patch is NOT something done by the PIAF installer.

You want to update the installed version modify the /etc/pbx/.version file so it shows 1757. Beyond that chill use the most recent 175x version or the 206X version and you will be up to speed. That being said there are differences between PIAF 175X and 206X and the 2 are not compatible with each other.

I suppose we should change status yet again to show INSTALLED VERSION for the PIAF version....

Ok I understand, but I am still curious as to why different modules were installed with 1756 that weren't in 1755 and the Dest Ch mod in the php file mentioned earlier is present in my 1756 instances but not in the 1755.

Also when I run update-programs, even on the 1756 instances it pulls from pbxinaflash.com/1755, so I should get the same updates on all my machines, yet there are differences and I installed them with the same default options on both versions.

Oh and not to hijack my own thread :-)

There has to be differences other than the version of CentOS because my 1756 instances spike the cpu every 5 minutes while the 1755 ones don't. Again, I have already used webmin to update all the packages, including CentOS to 5.7 on all systems. As far as I can tell, they are all identical installs other than the ISO I used to create them.

What is the 206x version you speak of? Is that Incredible PBX? I don't see anything on the PIAF downloads page higher than 1757.

Sorry, I am not trying to be argumentative. I do truly appreciate everyone's efforts, I am just trying to figure out why things are happening on my systems that, according to the previous posts logic, shouldn't be.

Thanks!

No idea. I suspect the differences you are speaking of lay in Asterisk. I know we dont do anything with this particular module as I write the install programs. It could have been added in by asterisk or freepbx.

No idea on the cpu spike. As for using webmin to update packages that is what update-source is for however good luck with webmin.

206X is BETA soon to be released as the successor to 175X. This has nothing to do with incredible. Once it comes out of beta it will be on the downloads page. There are numerous threads in our forums about it.

Here is a clue generally when there is an increment of Centos like from 5.6 to 5.7 we generate a new payload which usually contains a more recent version of asterisk.

BTW the only official <non beta> ISO version is 1.7.5.7.1 soon to be 1.7.5.7.2 which will probably be the last version in the 175x series. Also if you try to install our current payloads with a previous version of the ISO such as 1755 or 1756 Asterisk may not compile correctly so ensure whatever you do you ALWAYS get the latest ISO and use it to install our latest payloads.

So the beta is PBX in a Flash 2.0.6.0.1

which translates to3

2.0 = the PBX in a Flash version

6.0 = The version of centos 6.0

.1 = the first version of the ISO in this series.
