As we near an initial alpha of PIAF 2.0.6.X there are a number of changes that may occur. We would also like some feedback on what extra drivers you may want installed with the base PIAF iso.

Changes.

1. PBX in a Flash 2.0.6.X will only support Asterisk 1.8 and Asterisk 10.0Beta. This was chosen to because of the status of the 1.4/1.6 branch being unsupported after April 2012.

2. The ISO is *DOUBLE* in size! No way around this for the moment due to increased interdependencies within Centos 6.X. Eventually we hope to whittle the final release down some but it took an extended amount of time to make Centos work correctly with the PIAF paradigm so our energies have been directed at getting it to work. As you may know Centos 6 only comes on DVD's now which is an upstream change we have no control over.

3. There have been significant changes in the ISO so it should be easier to boot from a USB stick

4. We have been thinking of cutting down the number of kickstart configs available to non lvm (default) lvm and perhaps sata. If you have a favorite ks.cfg for for Centos 6.X only then send it to us for evaluation and inclusion please.

5. There are a number of changes between 32 and 64 under Centos 6 which will now require the use of the PIAF repo to actually get things installed.

6. A number of the our base programs have been rewritten in some different languages to take advantage of enhanced security and features.

7. For the alpha period we will be using bleeding edge versions of everything. This may continue into the beta period also.

8. Alpha testers are NOT required! Please dont ask Ward or myself. We will let you know when beta testers are wanted.

9. PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.7 will be supported for the foreseeable future. So you can still install the really stable colors like gold/silver/bronze just under Centos 5.7

10. NO FLAMES PLEASE! There is NO direct upgrade path between PIAF 1.7.5.X and PIAF 2.0.6.X. This is partially due to the policies from CENTOS which say there will NEVER be an upgrade path between MAJOR versions of Centos. Programs that run on PIAF 1.7.5.X will not WORK on 2.0.6.X at all and vice a versa. That being said all programs that are currently in 1.7.5.X are being ported over to 2.0.6.X if possible.

You MAY be able to move your freepbx configs from 1.7.5.X to 2.0.6.X but that needs to be sorted out in beta testing.

11. Centos 6.x comes with PHP 5.3! This is very good news for us as some of the new program the PIAF team is writing will only work with PHP 5.3.

12. incredible seems to work on 2061.... time will tell. Once I get a xen image up for Ward to play with we will know more.

Drivers

While centos 6 does support a great number of drivers we would like to know if there are any others that can be included in the piaf pre install environment. Please let us know.

Timeline

What timeline? Want it faster than RSN (real soon now) Why dont you drop some cash in our development bucket! That would help a lot and perhaps get it out the door faster. We appreciate the recent donations that helped us with some phones and a new XEN server! This has sped development along however we still got to eat...so none of us can devote as much time as we would like to this.... Course you can always take the path "Why should I contribute... if I wait long enough they will put it out anyways...." Drop me a PM if you have spare $$$ or a whopper 64 bit server you want to part with.

Currently we have an alpha version running on our local prox server with PIAF 2.0.6.1 using asterisk 1.8.7.1 32 bit under QEMU.

64 bit ISO will come after the 32 bit however that will be dependent on getting a new workstation dedicated to Centos 64 bit development. Unfortunately it needs to be real hardware with our PIAF build system and we will need some donations or $$$ for this.

Beyond that constructive suggestions are welcomed and we will try to look at all of them.

Having it include the Atheros AR81x family network drivers would be nice for the Foxconn Netbox installs. Let me know if you need the tarball as it seems difficult to find now days.

Actually we are working closely with openvox to include all of their drivers in PIAF. Once it is working it will make it's appearance in both the 1.7.5.x and 2.0.6.x trees of PIAF

Is the Dahdi config module still included? If so, please consider banishing it to the bit bin. I don't know of anyone who has successfully used it, tho I bet this post will bring them out of the woodwork.

I suspect that will be gone in the next version! I routinely uninstall it and send it to the great bit bucket.

I know there are strong feelings on the issue, but what about pre-compiling with OSLEC?

I am not familiar enough with it one way or the other.

It seems to me that asterisk already has something in it. I am not sure about adding OSLEC precompiled I suspect that should be an optional module.

We are still gaining information from Openvox about just what needs to be included as optional modules. I have been working on some autorecognition stuff that will go thru and try to sense what cards are installed and then ask you during the install what you would like to do. I had to break out my old assembler book....... my head still hurts.
