Having a little bit of trouble finding where I need to change the email address that shows up on outgoing faxes sent through Avantfax. I think when I setup faxing on PIAF, during the config, I put one of my email addresses to test functionality. Now I'm unable to find where to change it. Everything looks correct under the individual modems.

Any ideas where this would be?

Change the email address in config.php and local_config.php in /var/www/html/avantfax/includes

Looked in both of those places, but yet it's not showing in either of those files, unfortunately.

To configure the value the file(s) are:

/etc/hylafax/etc/config.ttyIAX0, /etc/hylafax/etc/config.ttyIAX1, etc. on the line "LocalIdentifier"

Be aware though that in the US, 47 CFR Section 68.318(d), dealing with "Fax Branding", requires that the originator of a fax message identify the sender name and telephone number as well as the time and date sent on all messages transmitted by including this information on outgoing faxes on the top or bottom margin of each page of each fax sent.

So email addresses may not the correct information to put on the top of faxes, name (individual or organization) and number of the sender might be more prudent.

47 CFR Section 68.318(d):
Telephone facsimile machines; Identification of the sender of the message. It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States to use a computer or other electronic device to send any message via a telephone facsimile machine unless such person clearly marks, in a margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page of the message or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine or of such business, other entity, or individual. If a facsimile broadcaster demonstrates a high degree of involvement in the sender’s facsimile messages, such as supplying the numbers to which a message is sent, that broadcaster’s name, under which it is registered to conduct business with the State Corporation Commission (or comparable regulatory authority), must be identified on the facsimile, along with the sender’s name. Telephone facsimile machines manufactured on and after December 20, 1992, must clearly mark such identifying information on each transmitted page.

Unfortunately, I do not have another "etc" folder within the hylafax folder.

I'm not sure why the email address was set in the first place, so I understand. Just trying to put the number in there instead of the email.

Doing some digging on my own system (have 2 -1 I am getting rid of soon) and I also have no /etc/hylafax/etc folder

What I have is etc/iaxmodem folder which has the filenames you described, but, the LocalIdentifier line is missing in all 4 files. Is is something that should be added?

Also on the system I am getting rid of the IAX modems are fine -- on my new one (on a non-rpbx VPS (from my maine web hosting provider [better specs at lower cost]) the IAX modems are down and I just found out why -- they were never created. Anyway that is slightly OT and I have a Fax at honme anyways on an ATA. But I still want it to work right (just in case I want to play with it. But User logins don't work right anyways.

I may be tearing down my new one to play with the Asterisk GUI and say goodbye to FreePBX but there are SOME modules in there (Pwhite's Text to speech) that I would like to see incorporated before I take that leap (or how to do stuff like that manually (again OT)

Good Luck though

Considering I don't have this directory, as well as can't find the email address string in *any* configuration file, I'm not sure what to do at this point. I suppose my only option, although extremely inconvenient, is to just blow the Incredifax install away and start all over again. Annoying.

Looked at my current system and the information I gave earlier was incorrect, I was basing it off an earlier version of PIAF. It appears that the critical files (config.ttyIAX0, config.ttyIAX1, config.ttyIAX....) are now located at:

/var/spool/hylafax/etc/

"LocalIdentifier" is still the field you need to edit, taking into consideration the fax branding rules I mentioned earlier.

If you still can't locate the correct directory search for the files that need to be edited...they have to be on your system somewhere.

Hope this helps.

Ah, thank you so very much for the point in the right direction! Modifying the config.ttyIAX files was the key, now that I was able to locate them with that path. I first tried putting the business name in the field, saved, and sent a text fax. It appears that it cuts off after the first word, so I'm not sure if there's a way to include both the business name and phone number. I'll test a few different ways and see what works.
