FYI ChicagoVPS: OpenVZ VPS $7/mo.

I got it yesterday for $7. Just have to make sure the proper promo code is in use.

Yah, been through your thread, doesn't solve any of the OpenVZ issues. There is more at play.

Prices I'm seeing today are $24.95 and $14.95.
Still available. Use the link, then proceed to checkout. Discount will be applied before you pay. If you see same price after discount applied, then it's gone. However, I got another at 11pm last night and a buddy did also.

I read that another user of ChicagoVPS was able to update his, but he was on a different node in a different IP block.

Ward, is the 96.8.117.0 ip space blocked from the Nerdvittles/PBXinaF download space? Could that be why my downloads fail?

Me too.

No $7 option.

Also PIAF doesn't show as an OS option.
Um, yes, both are... Here's the 1G option (plenty for PIAF)...

No dahdi or timing...

I got one to try for other reasons and then saw that I could reload as PiaF so I did.

So far it seems fine. I worry about the lack of meetme...

Just a heads up that we've seen problems on this platform with incoming Google Voice calls. The symptom is the inbound Gvoice call arrives, you attempt to answer on a SIP phone, and the GV call keeps ringing.

The fix that worked for us was to open up the Google Voice server's IP address in /etc/sysconfig/iptables and then restart iptables: service iptables restart. Apparently Google is using some port other than 5222 for some Google Voice calling now.

-A INPUT -s 74.125.92.125 -j ACCEPT

By the way, we've also discovered a MAJOR security hole in their iptables setup.

There's a line in the file that reads:

-A INPUT -i ! eth0 -j ACCEPT

This means let all the traffic through unless it's coming in on the eth0 port. Unfortunately, they've configured these VMs to use venet0 which means the firewall is totally worthless since all traffic is allowed in on the venet0 port.

The fix is to modify the above line so that it reads:

-A INPUT -i ! venet0 -j ACCEPT

That's one of the first things I noticed, a WIDE OPEN setup.
It's my first VPS so I didn't make a big fuss about it and just added the necesary rules.

***Off Topic***
BTW Ward, I got really scared just before I wrote this, I got a message saying that I was banned

Sometimes happens when you take a template that was designed for another platform and don't check it carefully.

Shoot me a copy of the banned email when you have a minute. Thanks.

Made for one, used in another?

Ward,

What was the template made for? You mean ChicagoVPS should have modified it for their environment, I assume?

Thanks for your posts. I fixed iptables (swithing out eth0, and adding the google server ip) and now my Google Voice is toasting along nicely.

Despite the bumps, this seems to be a rather decent deal.

As always, the PIAF community ROCKS.

We experimented with ChicagoVPS for several days. Never could get Google Voice incoming stable. But the price was certainly right.

GV on Chicago VPS works great for me...

I opened the IP on the firewall... that fixed all.

I am currently running two GV accounts on it, and both IN and OUT work flawlessly.

My course of action:

- Install the OpenVZ template Chicago VPS provides.
- Update all the FreePBX modules that need updating.
- Update-scripts
- Update-fixes
- Install Incredible PBX 2.0
- Fix eth0 firewall bug
- Add the Google Server IP Ward recommended to firewall rules.
