As I continue to try to figure out the best way to migrate the house to a SIP system (and continue playing phone tag with the Panasonic guy who must have a schedule as crazy as mine), I came up with another idea for easy call handling in house and am wondering if it's actually possible or not with PIAF (if so this would negate the need for a fancy unified phone system and I could get whatever I wanted for wherever I wanted).
So, say I have the POTS line in one of my OBI110s working properly for incoming and outgoing calls (still working on getting this tweaked and tested).
I'm wondering if this is possible:
1. A call comes into the POTS line and goes over from the OBI to PIAF.
2. PIAF puts the call into a "conference" (note sure if I'm even using the right terminology) and continues ringing/playing hold music/whatever for the caller.
3. Various extensions in the house are rung.
4. When someone answers, it connects them to the "conference" and stops ringing the caller and the other local extensions.
5. If someone else in the house wants to join the call, they can pick up their extension and dial something (like a 4 digit extension or some such) to be dropped into the "conference".
6. At any time local extensions can join or leave the conference without breaking the call, so long as there is one local extension in the call still.
7. When all local extensions leave the conference (or maybe if there are no local extension in the conference for X seconds), it hangs up (maybe if nobody answered it can play an Unavailable message and then hang up, but if a local extension was in the call it will just hang up when all local extension leave) - I'm not sure if this is really needed as supposedly the remote caller will hang up if nobody answers or when they are done talking, but it would be nice.
Is this possible? Basically (as I said before), I'm trying to make everything as seamless as possible for the users (and thus reduce headaches of my own). I know most handsets within a single DECT system can do conferencing, but that general means (depending on the system) 1. Only phones in that single base system can be in it and/or 2. They have to jump through menus to do it (unlike a desk phone where you just hit the conference button and dial the extension to conference in, wherever/whatever that extension is).
