Dell SC440 for $268

choice???

PiaF 1.2 Asterisk 1.4 on Dell SC440 or Walmart Special?
I'd like some feedback on pros/cons if possible.
Thanks

I have no experience with the Walmart special - I was contemplating the same as you...

I decided to go with the Dell SC440 the last time they had this sale. Be aware shipping is not free (I think Ground was $20).

I'm really impressed with the build quality of these units. Installed with no issues.

I'm not familiar with this particular Dell. But just be aware that, on many Dell systems, it's extremely difficult to manually turn off devices to free up interrupts. If you plan to add cards, this may be an issue. There's no such limitation on the gPC2 boards.

All around great server for PBX's

I have a few of these and can say that I have not had any real problems with interrupt sharing.

A couple of items worth mentioning though... The units have no PS/2 connectors for keyboard so you have to use a usb keyboard which could cause interrupt sharing with your phone card. I've used rhino cards in all of mine so far and was still able to get it on it's own IRQ by simply turning off the serial and parallel ports in the bios.

Also the tower is a little too tall (17.5) inches. The reason this matters is because we typically like to put them on a shelf corresponding with the relay rack (swing out rack) we use. This becomes an issue because the server is too wide for the rack shelf (1/2 inch difference). If you use a 12 U swingout rack the server is too tall to stand up (perhaps an 18U swingout rack would work). By the time we mount the patch panel, cable managment plate, switch and UPS the height becomes an issue. Not really a big deal but thought I'd mention our limited "tribulations"

Other than that I think they are excellent and extremely easy to work with (tooless).

hope its possible to get single IRQ for TDM cards whilst keeping the serial port running, this comes in handy for UPS monitoring via NUT....
