Hi,

I wanted to do a VoIP PBX years ago but my Linux skills weren't there at the time plus the usual failed dependencies crap.

Anyways, now I type this on a PIAF box that's setup and up to date. I've installed X-Lite and set it up according to their instructions but it appears not to work. PBX and Asterisk logs don't even show anything going on there. Just "login timed out please contact administrator" on X-Lite.

So I've tried Linphone and a few others. Usual failed dependencies crap. What is a GOOD softphone that "just works"? Or if someone who has setup X-Lite give me a hand?

I could get a Digium card + SIP Phone but for that much I could also pay for one more of my college courses next term. I'm so close! Please help me!!

Yeah something that "just works"

Uh, softphones are usually considered client software...

Why are you trying to run this on your PBX?

Zoiper is preconfigured to work in mode5 with the VPN in a Flash build or with installs from the Atomic Flash installer. These are GUI apps. They don't work in text mode on a CentOS machine.

I have set up Eyebeam and have recommended it, because it "just works."

Typically, nothing needs to be touched after setting the account properties. If it's to be used outside of the LAN (or even on the same LAN,) ensure the Domain field is the public IP or hostname of the PBX. And, of course, you should have a matching extension entry in your PBX...with a secure password.

Hope it helps,

Peter

I tried Eyebeam while traveling in Greece for a month (on my old Dell laptop) and it worked like a charm. I was taking business calls from the Mediterranean beach cafe and nobody was the wiser. (Calls were crystal clear).

Thank you

I am closer now. I installed X-Lite on another box running XP on the same subnet and it can connect now.

"Your username is: 1080"

However, I can't dial any other extensions or test calls (*60, *65, 7777).

"Call failed: Request Timeout"

I have my firewall turned off. I have only one trunk setup in PBX webmin and one outbound route. Any ideas?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Oh forgot to mention,

root@pbx# asterisk -rvv

shows nothing going on at all during the test calls.
