I'm getting ready for the phone company to install 4 analog trunks & 8 pots lines. (and yes its cheaper then a T1)

I need to figure out how to set up the 4 analog trunks. These trunks are for 10 DID numbers and are inbound only. Here is what I know....or think I know

They work in kind of reverse of the pots line. The telco takes there end off hook and then sends 4 DTMF tones that represent the last 4 digits of the number being called. The telco then bridges the call. These lines will be attached to my FXS ports.

How would you program PiaF to forward
these number to specific extensions?

example, the 4 DTMF tones will be "0784" and this need to ring extension 224.

My card is a Digium TDM2412E analog PCI card.

If I have any of this wrong, please feel free to correct me.

sadly this is not as straightforward as it may seem.

Apparently the only cards that can provide the required reverse battery signalling are Rhino cards (with appropriate software - or you can get a convertor for the DID trunks but I expect they aren't cheap.

This side of the pond you usually just get an E1 circuit for this amount of lines...

Digium says there card will support analog DID's. It is able to use both the e&m and e&m wink. I guess I will just have to play with it till I get it.

What I was thinking is that I will have to set up an "fake" extension for each did trunk number and use the follow me to forward it to the correct extension.

Two more weeks and I guess it will be trial by fire. LOL

edit
or maybe it I just set the DID in each extension, it will work......hopefully!!!!!!

Some hints I can remember:

1. When you use DID analog, you become the phone company... Example: You supply battery toward the Telco and all sounds such as ring and busy and Telco appears to you as a phone set.

2. Some but not all will be wink start. Telco won't send DTMF until a wink. Immediate Start will be easier for you because no wink is required. The wink was needed to Telco we were ready to receive DTMF. I don’t think asterisk will have that problem.

3. Easy way to test is to put a phone / butt set on the asterisk card port. You should have battery (i.e.: blow into mouth piece and hear it in ear piece. Pressing tone pad will generate tones. Correct DTMF should ring phone.

Good luck

I can either have the telco do wink or immediate. The order is set for immediate and to send DTMF tones. I just hope the CID works.

Hmm, CallerID was not available on our trunks. All that was sent was the DID number, in DTMF. Wasn't aware you could order these with CID.

Oh, the other problem we had was low volume. That was the main reason we went with T1's. But also, they stopped install DID Loops. Telco offered Super Trunks at $650+. We ended get them from a local CLEC at about 1/3 the cost
