I voted "Never heard of them" but that isn't entirely true. But the truth is that I don't know enough about them to be able to make a decision to use or not use them.

I need to learn more about this stuff. Landed a consulting gig...100% travel so it will be laptop + phone = office...want to keep the expenses down so I'll be using wifi + google voice when I can. Ordered a Nexus 4....could not resist the new price.

I answered personal, where I do use them, but of course they are used a bunch where I work; lots of SIP URIs around, they are just not a "consumer" thing; it's not easy to dial them from a phone. There is a trend among softphones where URI dialing is disabled... A pity! Tropo.com has this cool HTML5-only softphone, Phono, where you can have a phone in a web page without any external plugins, however the dang thing does not seem to work with lots of SIP URIs. My conjecture is they are not supporting either uLaw/aLaw codecs, or, not supporting DNS SRV. Either one is a killer for using SIP URIs to dial into most phone networks. I presume they want you to use the tropo platform, but the TOS says it's free to use anywhere.

Almost all my incoming DID's use my (single) account at SIP2SIP.
Incoming numbers from several number providers are forwarded to my SIP2SIP aliases.
PIAF splits the incoming DIDs out of the SIP To: header.

I hardly use outgoing SIP URI dialing, except for an outbound route to call friends and family that are also on SIP2SIP.

I use SIP URI as much as possible, which unfortunately is not much. I don't know many other people who use non-proprietary VoIP with SIP URI. And I always use G722 for these calls.

I just started using them for the PBX I support. I have Bria on my iPhone that is part of a ring group for inbound calls. Bria will periodically indicate that there is a loss of registration when using LTE, but it re-registers almost immediately.
