Dual Opteron 2.0GHz Server for $124.99

I a recent Piaf user. I have been playing around with Piaf in my VM and currently have everything working with softphones. I am very happy with the setup other than my VM making my IVR paly very fast.

I signed up for vitelity from the links in various articles by Ward. Both incoming and outgoing is working perfectly over few days with out any issues without any port forwarding (as against forwarding suggested in nearly every topic) and I intend to keep it that way as I do not need any remote extensions yet.

Now I am ready to deploy this on a good machine. I found this refurb servers at geeks.com. Can we use one of these for PIAF? Anything specific I should be taking care of when using 1u servers?

I would assume that the only problems you might have had were general linux related hardware compatibility , several are using these servers with untangle and not having any problems so you should be ok.

Thanks for your response. I needed an experts advise as I have no experience with server hardware. Good then, I will go ahead and order one of the Rackable systems for the small form factor.

120GB is much more than what I will need for the PBX only server. Anything else I can do with the space to compliment the PBX?

One warning, 1u servers are LOUD !!! They sound like standing next to a plane taking off.

Can you turn off extra fans to reduce the noise? My load is really light.

They're not fans so much as blowers with 1U servers. There's no real way to "turn them down" unless there's a bios setting.
