dundi call fails

I have had two servers connected over the internet via dundi for a couple of years now. Recently they stopped being able to dial between them. I can do "dundi query" and "dundi lookup" and all of those commands complete fine. A "dundi show peers" shows the other end properly. The lookups return the proper response. When I dial an extension tho, I see the calling piaf box initiate the call but it just sits there for awhile then times out. I have turned off all firewalls hardware and software, rebooted both servers, and nothing. If I turn on dundi debug I can see the traffic when I do a "lookup" or "query" but nothing when I try to initiate a call. I also turned on iax debug since it should be traversing that but again, no sign of traffic.

How do I debug this? I am out of ideas....

Did you run any updates that updated Asterisk? I have also had to reboot routers to get IAX to work. It seems that the state table in the router gets hosed up with IAX sometimes.
