Hello,
I am new with PIAF. I recently downloaded the ISO and installed everything following all the tutorials, etc. I have to say that all is working perfect: I have a couple of cisco 7940's, a softphone on a MAC, and one analogue extension trough an ATA. I also setup a SIP trunk. All works well.

I am now trying to have e-mails delivered when someone leaves a message for an extension. So, I setup the SMPT server of my internet provider using webmin in te sendmail module. My internet provider SMTP is reachable (since I can send e-mails from my mail client) but I get the following error when it comes from PIAF:

(FYI: I see this message in WEBMIN, SERVERS, READ USER MAIL for ASTERISK USER )

<<< 553 <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found
550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>... User unknown

Does anyone know what this is? Looks like my ISP smpt server doesn't like the address the mail is coming from....but I am not sure at all. Any help appreciated.
Best regards

Hi

First step is to run the setup-mail script, and you must have a valid hostname for your PBX.

The ISP is probably doing a reverse lookup on [email protected]l and not finding anything - you need to give the box a valid address for the ISP to look up.

Hi jroper
Thank you for your advise.

Yep, I have done that but maybe i have it wrong.
I created a free DYN DNS address "XXX.homeip.net", who points back to my address. This is working fine and being updated when my IP changes.

I also ran the setup-mail, and there I have put as host name the "XXX.homeip.net" but this is the first time i am doing it and I am not sure if this is enough. Do I also have to put like a machine name after XXX.homeip.net?

Thanks, your support is appreciated.

Hi

What you have done is fine.

One of the techniques that ISPs use to prevent spam is a reverse lookup to ensure that the sender exists. The steps you have taken should now should ensure that reverse lookup works.

Having done this, you need to test it - from what you have shown on the so far, you should be good to go.

However, some ISP's object to you having a mailserver in their network, and block port 25, and take other measures to prevent the flow of mail.

If this is the case - then have a look at Ward's most excellent article on getting mail flowing again using gmail.

Hi Joe

Here is what i get when I telnet into the smtp server of my provider:

telnet smtp.mobistar.be -25
Trying 80.12.204.211...
Connected to smtp.mobistar.be.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mwinf8112.mobistar.be ESMTP ABO **************************

does that indicate, or is there a way to tell that this is good sign?

Send a mail, what do you get back in terms of error messages.

Joe

Could it be that now it's google who is not accepting the mails? I am going to try with another address at my office for example. Keep you posted.

Looks like when I ran the setup-mail, the smpt server that I had configured under WEBMIN got deleted. I checked it right now, put it back in and guess what????? Suddenly about 10 e-mails got delivered ! !:lol::lol::lol:

So JOE: thank you so much for your HELP!!!

Best regards
