was looking in the PiAF "starter" docs and they still say not to use extension 200 (but to start at x201)

I know in some early versions of Trixbox and AaH it seems this was used for some function (as were extensions 300-399 for speed dial entries)

but is this still the case? Its just that I would like to use these extension ranges (200 and 300-399) for my production systems if possible..

I've got 200 in use on my test system and it hasn't collided with anything.. also looked in features.conf and other similar files and not found any evidence that these are "pre-allocated" in asterisk 1.4 (if they are then please let me know where)..

I've already moved or changed feature codes such as 888 or 7777 via FreePBX..

Those limitations were based on feature codes within the FreePBX framework and are not related to PBX in a Flash or the TB system. With later versions of FreePBX, you are now able to set the majority of the feature codes to eliminate dial plan conflicts. In addition, FreePBX now flags dial plan conflicts.

Hi

I use a system of setting the IP address of the phones to match the extension number, and the PBX to be on .200

The range of .200 to .250 is rarely used by anything else. Routers usually issue IP addresses in the range of 100->199, and this area is usually clear for you to use for the phone system.

I put the phones on fixed IP's so the users know where to find them as some phones have user functionality, and it makes it easier for you to support.

The 200 extension used to be a limitation, and I avoid it just for legacy reasons, there is probably no good reason why I should now. - but at least you don't get arguments as to who gets extension 200 ;-)
